CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Anike's pov

"How is it that you are always looking so beautiful, babe?"

"You are always looking handsome too, babe."

"No, you look more beautiful everyday."

"You guys should take this your lovey dovey conversation to another table."

Mariam said to Tobi before Mercy could even reply to his compliments again.

She literally spoke our mind cause we have been watching them go on like this for hours.

I chuckled silently as I watched the drama unfold.

Tobi and Mercy are both characters. You cannot be with them and not laugh. They are literally so fun and cute together. Like always happy together.

I took another bite of my jellof rice silently enjoying the taste.

Listening to the others and laughing but not contributing has been what I have been doing since morning.

I am not sad or anything, I just don't feel or have anything to really say.

I felt someone's stare on me as I ate, I looked up and found Jayden's gaze was fixed on me, more specifically my leg.

I know he is staring at the bandaged foot but hope he is not scared away by this huge thigh. I subconsciously dragged down my skirt but it rode up again.

I looked away from my skirt and at him.

Jada is right, someone so perfect and handsome like Jayden can't fall for someone like me. Maybe I am truly just a person he is training. Nothing more, nothing less.

He caught me staring back and just smiled.
He pointed at my foot and I almost used my hands to cover my face in embarrassment,

"How are you feeling?"
He asked quietly enough that I could hear but not disrupt the others who were deep in their conversation.

I was right, he is just worried about my foot. My heart warmed at the thought. But just sighed when I remembered the question he asked,

My leg hurts. It hurts bad, but I will be okay.

I tried to push down what Jada said Yesterday night. Even though I am not his type, I am his friend. And he cares.

"Better."
I whispered back and he nodded with a smile.

"Did you get back to the hostel on time?"
I asked what has been on my mind since Yesterday night.

He had this smirk on his face and I knew his reply will be a cocky one.

"It's I, Jayden, Of course, I got there on time."

I raised an eyebrow and he smiled proudly. I could not help but laugh out, quietly, at the sight.

"What are you doing after class?"

He asked when I stopped laughing. I placed my hand on my jaw, stroking it as if I was really thinking.

'Nothing, just reading since this foot can't let me play."

"Okay, can you spare me an hour of your time then."

I nodded, suddenly feeling excited. We are this close and Jada doesn't know. I just have to push back what she said and live in the moment.

"What are you two talking about?"
Jeff suddenly asked and my eyes turned wide like a deer caught it in headlight when Jada turned to us.
