"Don't worry about a thing, Charlie. I'll have those transcripts ready for you by Monday."

"You're a lifesaver, Cove! I'll tell Cam that it's all under control. You really saved my ass this time! Next time I'm in Seoul, drinks are on me!"

I chuckled at his enthusiasm as I hit send on my email to Cam and pushed my mouse aside. I was hoping to wrap up this last call so I could finally head out after being pulled in on the weekend.

"Charlie, at this point, you owe me more than a few drinks. But I'll take you up on that offer when you're in town next."

Charlie laughed heartily on the other end, and I could almost picture him nodding with that boyish grin. "What can I say? I always seem to find myself in a bind, but you're the best at getting me out of it."

"Happy to help," I replied, leaning back in my chair and propping my feet up on the desk, enjoying the brief moment of relaxation.

"I gotta run; I've got another deadline in 30 minutes."

"Maybe if you weren't such a procrastinator, you wouldn't always be rushing," I teased, imagining him with his mouth hanging open in mock shock.

"What's the fun in that? Goodbye, Cova!"

I hung up the phone and let out a heavy sigh, turning my gaze toward the window. It was a crisp Friday evening in Seoul, the city alive with the promise of adventure and excitement. Excitement I was ready to enjoy now that work was over.

"Knock, knock!" I heard an enthusiastic voice call out as Byeol, my assistant, bounced into my office.

"By all means, come right in," I said with a playful roll of my eyes as I swung my feet off the desk.

"After transferring Charlie to your line, I had to see what favor you did for him this time," she teased, plopping down in the chair across from me and leaning forward on the desk.

"The usual-cleaning up his mess because he was too late to do it himself," I replied with a smirk. Byeol snorted with laughter, twirling a strand of hair around her finger.

"I don't get that man, but then again, I don't really get you either! Was his, uh, skills that good that you keep bailing him out?" she quipped, her tone laced with mischief.

I smirked back as I shut down my computer and stood to grab my coat. "Wouldn't you like to know?"knowing full well I never touched that man sexually a day in my life.

Byeol groaned dramatically as she stood up and grabbed her own coat. "So, the American choreographer Sam is joining us tonight. Ae-Cha and Maddie will already be there by the time we arrive."

Byeol has been my assistant since I moved to Seoul for this job. I'm the lead translator and one of the three managers for the K-pop group Ateez. KQ was impressed with my Korean fluency and my background in English teaching, so I initially joined as their English tutor. But with my double major in business management and a relentless work ethic, I quickly climbed the ranks to join Ateez's elite management team.

I had just turned 28, and after a long-term engagement went south, I applied for this job as a way to start fresh, far from Minneapolis, Minnesota. When I got the offer, I broke off the engagement a month before the wedding and started my life over here in Seoul.

That was two years ago, and I don't regret it for a second. Vince wasn't a bad guy, but his jealousy and anger issues were something I couldn't ignore. He was my dominant for a year before our relationship turned exclusive, but his idea of BDSM crossed too many lines. What started as a consensual dynamic turned into something toxic, with him justifying his abusive behavior as "playing a scene."
