SIXTEEN

"Be my girlfriend, for real this time" Ruby whispered. Audrey smiled before giving the girl another kiss.

"Of course"

A week passed and life was looking up for Ruby Queen. She had a beautiful girlfriend. All of her lessons were going well and according to Audrey, she was on track to becoming the perfect queen. She and Audrey went on another date, Audrey took her horseback riding which Ruby enjoyed. They hung out a lot, Ruby sat on the bleachers when Audrey had cheer practice and shouted the loudest when Audrey did anything.

One morning, Ruby was called into Fairy Godmother's classroom where she was met by her aunty standing next to a large tv.

"Good morning Ruby" Fairy Godmother greeted. Ruby bowed to the two women mentally rolling her eyes at all of Audrey's lessons.

"Good morning" she replied before giving her aunty a hug.

The White Queen hugged the teenager back. "As I'm sure Audrey informed you, Family Day is tomorrow. And seeing as your mom can't come to Auradon unfortunately, we have set up a video call for you"

"I know you're excited aunty no need to hide it"

The White Queen grinned and shook Ruby, "I am so excited! I haven't seen my sister in 20 years!"

Fairy Godmother turned on the tv and plugged in a few things, next thing Ruby knew, she could see her mother's face. She never realized how much she missed her until right then. It had been weeks since she heard her mother's voice.

"Hi mom," Ruby feels her stomach knot as her eyes start to water.

The Red Queen smiles, her eyes watering as well. "I missed you my little thorn"

"I missed you too"

"How do you like Auradon? How are your lessons?" 

The White Queen steps into view of the camera, "Of course, she likes it here, she got herself a girlfriend" 

"Aunty!" 

The Red Queen laughed at her sister and daughter. "My little sister, it is good to see you. I miss you"

"I miss you too and I'm only a year younger" The White Queen 'pouts'. 

"Yeah yeah. Ruby, who is your girlfriend?" 

Ruby smiles at the thought of Audrey. "My girlfriend is Princess Audrey Rose. She is the daughter of Aurora, Sleeping Beauty." 

"Oh, the White Rabbit said she wasn't very nice, as long as you're happy and my sister approves"

The Royal family of Wonderland talked for hours until they had to give a tearful goodbye. Ruby gives her aunt a hug before thanking Fairy Godmother for the video call. Ruby texts Audrey to find out where she is knowing she had Family Day rehearsals. Ruby gets a reply from Audrey saying she was in her dorm so Ruby decides to go there. 

"Hey, Princess" Ruby greets Audrey opening up the door. 

"Hey baby" Audrey replies giving Ruby a kiss. Ruby found out that Audrey was big on physical touch, it was her number-one love language. Ruby didn't mind, physical touch was her love language because physical affection was never given to her on the Isle. So when Audrey wanted to cuddle after a long day or hold hands on their way to breakfast she was all for it. 

"I got to talk to my mom today," Ruby says taking her shoes and laying on Audrey's bed. Audrey lays down next to her opening a book in her hands. Ruby remembers it as one of the books she had to balance on her head. 

"Really? How is she?" 

"She's good, really proud of me. She approves of you" 

Audrey bookmarks her page, "She approves of me?" 

Ruby bends down and gives Audrey a kiss, "Yes, she's happy for us" 

"My parents are excited to meet you tomorrow" 

Parents have never liked Ruby, but to be fair no one really liked anyone on the Isle. She would be lying if she said she wasn't a bit nervous about meeting Audrey's parents. 

"What if they don't like me?" Ruby asks. Audrey shrugs her shoulders. 

"As long as I'm happy they'll come around" 

That didn't reassure Ruby as the pool of uncertainty sunk into her stomach. Audrey must have noticed because she grabbed her hand.

"It'll be okay, they're going to love you," Audrey said trying to make her girlfriend feel better. Ruby couldn't help but smile at the act. 

"What is your book about?" Ruby asks changing the subject. Ruby doesn't like reading, not even fairytales. But, she knew Audrey loved to read and Ruby loved when Audrey's eyes lit up with joy. Audrey quickly goes into a deep explanation about the plot and its characters and which ones she shipped. 

"Will you read it to me?"
