What if the damsel in distress never needed saving?

What if the stepmother and sisters was preparing sweet Cinderella for the harsh world?

What if the knight in shining armor was the true dragon in disguise?

What if the dragon was attempting to rescue the damsel from the prince instead?

There are many possibilities behind the things you thought you knew all about. Or perhaps it all depends on perspective. Maybe there was a right or wrong- maybe there was none. The human mind is something very peculiar. They often have intentions even themselves weren't aware of.
What if all the stars above in this sky was fake? If it was just a giant hoax, a lie made up by the divine. Were you fake? Was everything seen to you real? Are you simply the lie in this real world, or are you the only real thing in the midst of illusions.

The sun was almost halfway setting, close to marking yet another day. At the same time yesterday, you and Kunikuzushi were walking to Amakane island. You already missed the sight of fireworks.

"Doctor L/n. We'll be leaving soon, are you uncomfortable anywhere?"

"I'm alright. Just a little nervous."

Teppei grinned and gave a firm nod, handing you a calabash bottle of water. Resource was scare in the Resistance, so you naturally tried to refuse the offer. He still put the bottle in your grip, insisting that you must be tired. You eventually gave up trying to reason with the young soldier and drank the liquid. It felt refreshing and cool against your dry throat.

Gorou came and checked the number of people and stared at his piece of paper once more. Nodding to himself to gain some sort of assurance, he walked over to you and Teppei having a small conversation. He watched the two laugh and make hand gestures as they spoke with one another, just as any normal people did.

The general observed your interaction, how unsurprisingly normal it was. He had only met you once before when you came over to Watatsumi island. Since it was already closely being monitored by the shogun, you had no choice but to come and go as soon as possible.
No one in the Resistance understood the shogun's reason for their suffering. Even Raiden Ei's rule seemed moderate when compared to her son's. Why had he abandoned people who were willing to follow him? Why did the innocent people who hadn't done anything to the king have to suffer because of him? Gorou couldn't understand.

He would be lying if he said he completely understood you either. Someone who was 'freinds' with the man he was grave enemies of. How could someone who had seen the pain of everyone be willing to side with the very individual who caused it? The brunette wasn't able to tell whether you were a friend or foe for what he stood for.
Perhaps you were none.
