Panic

Marinette's heart started to pound. She felt as though her lungs had vanished- the breath that she had held left. She started to shake, started to tear up. Her alter-ego, the one that allowed her to be the person she'd always wanted to be, the one that allowed her confidence, a brain for the first time in her life; it was gone. It was all gone. Gone, gone, gone.

She brought her knees together. She couldn't lose her earrings. She couldn't. They were;

they were everything.

She was a disappointment. She had known it before, but had never realized it to this point. She had lost the one important thing about her.  She sobbed.

Rocking as much as her chains allowed, Marinette cried. She cried as the day finished (or started, she couldn't tell). She cried, sobbing.

Not noticing the creaks that resounded off the rickety staircase adjacent to her, she cried. Not noticing the familiar darkened figure in front of her, she cried. Not until she heard something beneath her tears.

A giggle.
