You're Not My Type

Ok, I'll admit it. Hazel had successfully incorporated me into her friend group at this point. And I didn't even mind it. We walked into the set-up area which was still empty right now. But we were making decorations to help change that. I was assigned to basically be the manager of it all to make sure they didn't screw anything up. Which didn't make a lot of sense to me, as I've never done something like this. But they said I knew the most about scary stuff and I got to do less than them so I'm not complaining.

After three hours and 16 minutes, everyone was tired and in desperate need of a pick-me-up. Leo offered to run out and get us food. Piper and Hazel went with him; leaving me, Jason, Percy, Frank, Annabeth, and Rayna. We just sort of sat around and talked.

Annabeth and Jason were discussing the classes they wanted to take next semester. Frank and Rayna on the other hand were talking about what event the school should put on after Halloween. This left just me and Percy to talk to each other. I never realized how much he talked before now. It was like he was incapable of being quiet for more than a breath. Which, I get because he struggles with the more hyperactive side of ADHD but that didn't mean it wasn't annoying.

"Percy," I cut him off midsentence and shook my head smirking just the smallest bit. "Has anyone ever told you you're annoying as hell?" He rolled his eyes this time with a large smile plastered on his face.

"Yes. But you know you love me." He hit my arm playfully and I quite literally saw Jason's attention split so he could eavesdrop on us. The conversation between him and Annabeth sort of just fell off now due to this.

I hit Percy back a little harder but not in a way that would ever hurt him. "Not really. I mean I used to but then I realized, you're cute, but you're just not my type." His jaw might as well have hit the floor.

At this point, Reyna and Frank's discussion had completely stopped. I felt all my nerves from before with Hazel returning with a vengeance. I don't know why I said that. It was just the best witty response I could think of. But these people weren't my sister; they were somehow more threatening and scary.

Percy finally managed to speak though his voice was about an octave higher than normal. "What?! What do you mean I'm not your type?" I realized Annabeth and Jason were holding back laughter which is why they were so quiet. Frank just shook his head at Percy like a fed-up father and continued to talk with Reyna. "I'm everyone's type!"

I just shrugged a bit actually smiling now. "Clearly not." Annabeth lost it at that point which caused Jason to do the same. Percy was still staring at me, shocked and very offended. Frank took out his phone and stood up.

Rayna picked Percy's jaw up for him and set her phone on the table. "Come on, they need our help with the food and drinks." Frank told us as he walked to the school's doors. We all got up, though Percy was a bit slow to it, and headed outside to help. Annabeth slipped me a high-five when Percy wasn't looking.

We got all our food in and sat around to eat. Percy was moping now all cuddled up onto Annabeth. "What happened to him?" Leo asked and flicked a fry at Percy's head. It bounced off Jackson's forehead and landed in his lap.

Annie just smiled and was quick to answer. "Nico unintentionally roasted him and now he's being petty about it." Percy sat up and managed to be offended again. The whole mock anger and all.

"ANNIE! You're supposed to be on my side here! I'm universally desirable!" She just nodded a bit and patted his head like he was a dog in need of comfort.

"I am on your side seaweed brain. But you're a lot." Not even Percy could refute that so he just kept eating; he wouldn't need to respond that way after all. Annabeth just chuckled and kissed his cheek to make him smile.

Piper was beyond confused looking and raised her brow at me. "What did you do to him?" Jason started snickering and raised his hand like a child in grade school.

"Can I tell the story?" Really he was asking if I wanted the three who had missed it to know. I nodded for him to continue. He told the short story with a look of glee slapped across his face. Leo laughed to the point where he had tears in his eyes. Piper just shook her head with a fond smile and stared down at her food. Hazel looked like I had personally offended her along with Percy.

She set her meal down, crossed her arms, and looked over at me. "And you neglected to mention this to me why?" I just looked down at my McDonald's drink and shrugged.

"Sorry?" I wasn't all that sorry, and she wasn't all that upset about it. She turned away putting her head of huge curly hair between us as she picked up her chicken nuggets and munched on them. Even with the petty cold shoulder, it felt like I had been freed of some sort of shackle now that everyone knew. After that, I felt like I could do anything I wanted. Like I could fight god and win. I knew I could be any version of me I wanted to be. I get that it sounds corny, like some sort of coming-of-age movie. But where do you think those movies get the ideas from?

I felt light as air and stronger than titanium at the same time. It didn't make any sense, but it didn't need to because it's feeling; those don't make any sense. They just simply... are.

I just smiled to myself. It was so subtle I'm sure no one else knew. The usual breaking-off happened as the group spilt into smaller conversations. After 47 minutes we finished eating and got back to work. I continued to monitor them like they were children.

After we made all the decorations, which took 38 more minutes, we stored them away so they could be hung up on the nights of the haunted house. We weren't going to block off the entire hallway for the better part of a month. This is still a school after all.

It was 5:38 so I only had 22 minutes to get dressed and get to work. Reyna gave me a ride back to my dorm and offered to drive me to work. I almost denied but I was low on time so I accepted. It took me 9 minutes to get dressed and get my bag for work. 13 minutes until I had to be in. Luckily the shop isn't far from the dorms. It took 11 minutes because of course we hit each red light.

I barely made it in time. I grabbed my bag and dashed inside while she yelled goodbye to me. My co-worker left now and I set myself up behind the counter. I was just relieved I wasn't late.

This day broke the routine so many times. First, there was Will asking me to study with him which just the thought of made me feel like I had a war between barn owls and falcons raging in my gut. Then I came out to Hazel which had felt roughly the same but in a much more negative... 'I'm going to cry' sort of way. And for some reason, I decided all my friends should know. Did Will know? I mean I haven't told him but Hazel knew without me telling her.

Would he even be ok with it like my other friends were? I didn't want to risk what I'd made. Made all on my own. However, worrying about it would get me nowhere. Well, it would get me spinning around in circles. I got my computer out of my bag and started my work.

Midterms were around the same time as the haunted house would be. So for once I decided to be prepared and started going over the material now so I wouldn't be stretched so thin later. Look at me, being an actual adult.

Hey there guys, gals, and non-binary pals!

When I looked up 'not my type' to find the photo for the chapter one of the things that showed up in the images was a Percy Jackson reference and I died laughing

Anyway, I hope you guys liked this chapter because it was... well it was a process to write an edit

But that's all- leave a comment if you want I love responding to them

Have a great day/night
