Ithil, having saved the hobbit once already, as well as his (now limited) knowledge of the future. Was invited and agreed to attend the council.

He stood behind Aragorn, his hand clutched around a dagger. Always alert from years on the road, he found it hard to relax and so took on a protective role to busy himself.

"Care- tye ind ana termáre- tar i ilúve lú (do you intend to stand there the whole time)" Aragorn said with a sigh at his friend's antics

"ni care- (i do)" Ithil replied coldly, watching a man sitting in a seat across from them.

Tye care- nórë uncomor (you're making people uncomfortable) he scolded but Ithil paid no attention. By now everyone had arrived and Elrond cleared his throat,

"Strangers from distant lands ... friends of old. You have been summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor. Middle-earth stands upon the brink of destruction. None can escape it. You will unite, or you will fall. Each race is bound to this fate...this one" he addresses the council,

"Bring forth the ring, Frodo," he asks the familiar hobbit,

The small male crept cautiously forward and hesitantly placed a small golden ring onto a plinth in the middle of the council,

Personally, Ithil felt no connection to the small piece of jewelry but he could see the effect it had on some other members of the council.

"So it is true"

"Sauron's Ring! The ring of power!"

"The doom of man!"

Various whispers were sent around the plaza, he strained to hear them but they were far too muffled for him to be sure

"It is a gift...a gift to the foes of Mordor! Why not use this Ring? Long has my father, the Steward of Gondor, held the forces of Mordor at bay...by the blood of our people are your lands kept safe. Give Gondor the weapon of the enemy...let us use it against him!" A man, the son of the steward of Gondor, suggested

"You cannot wield it. None of us can. The one ring answers to Sauron alone...it has no other master." Aragorn counters him,

"And what would a ranger know of this matter" he spits, Ithils grip on his dagger tightened and he took a step forward

"This is no mere Ranger. He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance." another  elf voices,

"Aragorn? This is Isildur's heir?" He muttered in disbelief,

"And heir to the throne of Gondor." the elf adds,

"Gondor needs no king," he says overcoming his surprise,

The elf looks like he wants to say something he might regret, fortunately, Aragorn intercepts him,

"Havo Legolas (sit down Legolas)"

Elrond shot a glance to Ithil, who sheaths his dagger before clearing his throat,

"The ring is no weapon in the hands of men. It has but one master. I have seen the future in which it returns to him. It is something few would wish to live through"
