Leonardo x Reader - How Do I Say Goodbye?

A tear slid slowly down your cold face as you got lost in the lyrics of the music you were listening to, every word going straight to your heart, like the song had been made for you.

A cold wind blew past, pushing your (h/c) locks behind you, but not seeming to bother any other part of you at all.

The tear slid down past your lips, that were slightly mouthing the lyrics as the song played, music filling the air around you and blocking out everything else. The streets below you still bustled with life, people driving around or walking down the dark sidewalks, but you payed no mind to any of it.

None of it mattered right now.

It wasn't this that you would miss really, when you eventually had to leave tomorrow and move half way across the country, it was him.

Your one friend, in this big lonely city. The person who had been by your side to help you through all of life's bullshit for who knows how many years.

It wasn't New York that you'd be leaving... it was him.

You'd be leaving the one good thing about your life behind, all because your father hadn't been able to get his drug problem under control.

Another song started playing, you sighing as you recognized the music, before the lyrics started floating through the air.

(Apologizing in advance if I get any of the lyrics wrong)

"Every morning, there's a message on my phone,

It's my mother saying 'Darlin' please come home.'"

~Flashback~

You mashed the X button on your controller repeatedly, grinding your teeth in concentration as you kept your gaze intently focused on the tv screen. Next to you, Leo sat with a smug smile on his face, as he watched you pour everything you have into beating his high score.

Seconds later, the words 'Game Over' appeared on the screen, you crumbling in agony as you fell back against the couch pouting.

Leo, being the nice person he is, laughed as he patted your shoulder reassuringly.

"Better luck next time, (n/n)."

You shot him a glare, sitting back up and starting the game again with determination in your eyes.

"I will beat you." You growled, starting to mash buttons again as he just shook his head, saying, "If you say so."

You were doing really well, but about a minute in your phone rang, causing you to lose focus for a split second, and to lose again.

'Game Over'

"Oh come on!" You yelled, Leo laughing again as you looked to see who had screwed up your game.

Glancing down at your phone, you saw 'Mom' at the top of the screen, and your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"She doesn't get off of work until four today..." You mumbled before answering the call and saying an almost hesitant "Hello?"

Her voice came through as a blubbery mess, you couldn't understand a single word she was saying, but you knew something bad had happened.

"Woah woah, mom what happened? I can't understand anything you're saying." You said, slightly panicky as you looked at Leo, who was looking at you with concern in his blue eyes.

She continued crying into the phone for a good two minutes, before taking deep breaths to calm down, and saying, "Y-your father OD'd!"

Your eyes widened and your heartbeat picked up, as you asked just above a whisper, "Is he....?"
