Her question hung in the air for a good minute as the alarm rang out in the otherwise quiet night, the sound pushing me to answer but my thoughts keeping me from speaking.

I knew I needed to go after those guys, and the longer I waited, the bigger the chance of them getting away would be. But it wasn't exactly that simple.

It would be if I was by myself. But I'm not.

I'm with her.

And that simple fact made this decision so much more difficult to make.

I'd be lying if I said I haven't taken a bit of a liking to her over the last month, she just somehow drew me in from the first moment I saw her. Everything about her, from her fighting style, to her out-of-place sarcastic comments, to the fact that she was using her free time to take down bad guys.

She's just awesome.

Sure, I kinda felt like a creep while I was basically stalking her...

But then again, she just said that she knew, and for some reason she doesn't seem to care. She actually seemed like she was enjoying talking to me, for the short period of time it lasted.

And that's what's making this so challenging.

The way she's acting towards me makes me think that maybe she has some interest in me. Like, she wants to talk to me and be around me.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I would give anything for it to be true.

But even if it is, I know that'll change as soon as she sees me. Sees what I am.

I don't know why I even let myself get so close. I should've known what would happen. What always happens.

I really don't think sometimes....

But, as nice as it would be, there's no going back and changing my actions. And it's gonna happen either way.

Even if I turned her down, I know I wouldn't be able to just leave with a clear conscience. I'd end up following her, and eventually this situation would repeat itself.

There's no escaping the inevitable. No matter how much it's gonna hurt....

"Clocks tickin' dude." She reminded in her soft yet confident voice, pulling me from my thoughts. "You with me or not?"

I wish I had more time. Maybe some way to explain things before she saw me, to make it a little less terrifying. But luck can't ever be on my side...

So time to make a decision.

Leave and blow whatever slim chance there is of getting to know her.... Or go fight by her side and risk her completely freaking out when she looks at me.

Worst two options in history.

Well, here goes nothing I guess...

Breathing in deeply, I closed my eyes and hesitantly moved one foot forward, towards the brighter part of the roof where she stood waiting for me.

I could almost feel the grin in her stare that was completely locked on me, making this a million times harder than it already was.

Fear was coursing through my veins at how this would end, but still left some room for hope of a good outcome.

Another step. And another. And another.

Until I slowly emerged from my place in the shadows.

My fists were clenched at my sides, my eyes closed tight and head hanging down as I awaited what always happened.
