▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃┊𖤐₊˚. ࿐ྂ。Rather than going back the way she’d come, Bloom headed in the opposite direction, thinking she might stop by the juice bar and pick up a drink on her way back. She had only brought water and an apple with her but she was craving something sweet.
She followed the path through the park. There were no food stands around here, no one selling balloons or toys for children, so it was always a little more deserted than the other parts. Bloom was not worried about anything since the crime rate in Gardenia was low to nonexistent. Everyone knew everyone here and if something were to happen there was always someone who saw it.
A shout sounded in the distance to Bloom's left and she froze in place, wondering whether she should keep moving towards the exit, or step off the path and see what was going on. For that hadn’t been the excited screech of a playing child, or even the wail of one who had hurt themselves; this person had sounded older, and in a lot of pain.
Bloom glanced down at Kiko who was staring at her with curious eyes. She had to make the decision to keep on moving and act as though she didn't hear the shout or she could go see what exactly it was.
Bloom left the path, trying to reason with herself that if someone was in trouble she couldn’t just leave them. She wouldn't want someone to leave her if she was in a similar situation. She moved through the thick trees, cursing and tugging her bike over thick tree roots until finally the trees thinned abruptly and opened into a large sunlit clearing.
Bloom stopped and leant her bike against the trees with Kiko before she moved closer to see what was happening. The girl was silently praying it wasn't anything serious and just some kids goofing around.
Bloom bit her lip and she stopped beside a tree so she wouldn't be visible to those in the clearing. She was hesitant to move any closer so she waited to hear if the person who shouted would shout again.“Back off!” a voice shouted, so suddenly, and so close that Bloom leapt in fright. She didn't know the voice of the person but she could recognize the voice to be female. Bloom reached for her phone that she thought was in her pocket but it wasn't. She had left it in her bag that's with Kiko.
The redhead almost cursed to herself for not having her phone with her. She peered out from behind the tree just in time to see a foot, encased in a bright orange, heeled boot connect with a small, strange creature, unlike anything Bloom had seen before. The boots looked heavy and were certainly dangerous if the way they sent the creature sprawling was anything to go by.
The redhead's eyes travelled up the orange boots, and the long legs they belong to, scanning all the way up to the round face of a girl who couldn’t be much older than she herself was. At first glance, Bloom might have thought her to be any other teenager from Gardenia, what with her fair but slightly tanned skin, long blonde hair, and exposed midriff but that as where the similarities stopped.
The blonde girl's clothes, simple orange shorts and tank top to match, might have fit in with the local kids, but the way they sparkled unnaturally bright, as though someone had scooped up a handful of stars and used them in her outfit, certainly didn’t.
The girl's pretty round face made Bloom frown. She looked slightly older or that's at least what Bloom thought. The girl clutched a long thin sceptre in her hands, holding it out like a weapon along with small pair of pale wings that sat between the girl’s shoulders.
A gasp left Bloom’s lips. “What the hell?” Bloom muttered out loud. The girl squinted not believing what she was seeing. She matched the images of fairies from Andy's book of mythical creatures. The same book he had leant to her just last week to keep herself busy.
Bloom rolled her eyes at herself when she realized how stupid it was. It was probably some performance or cosplaying event they were putting on. Bloom watched as the girl, unaware of her audience continued to battle the small creatures that were leaping at her. Bloom wondered what the small creatures were and how they got them to move like that.
