"haeri-ah, would you be able to cover my shift tonight? there's an emergency at home and i really have to go," her co-worker begged. "please! i'll cover you the next time you need someone to! promise!"

haeri nodded at the older woman with a small smile plastered on her face. "sure thing, ms. jang! i hope everything's okay back at home."

the woman grabbed haeri's hands thanking her repeatedly. "thank you so so much, haeri-ah. don't be afraid to bring up my promise in the future. i really do owe you for this."

"of course, i won't forget! please do hurry home though," haeri ushered her co-worker to the door of the sports shop and waved her off. ms. jang waved back at the girl as she slowly jogged home, mouthing "thank you" one last time. she watched her fellow worker make her way home until she disappeared into the night. once the older woman was out of sight, haeri allowed her smile to drop as she shut the door to the shop and made her way back inside.

a sigh filled the store as haeri made her way to the register and rested her chin in her palms. she checked the time on her phone and let another sigh escape her mouth. "7:04, huh? wow, i can't wait to be here for another 4 hours!"

just as she was about to continue on with her sarcastic and enthusiastic speech, the sound of a bell rang throughout the shop, notifying her of the customer that had entered.

"welcome," haeri said as she stood up, a smile now plastered on her face. "please let me know if you need any help finding anything."

the boy, who seemed to be about her age, looked up at her for a split second and nodded at her before beginning his search for whatever it was that he was looking for. haeri couldn't help but watch him as he walked around the store. she wasn't trying to come off as creepy in any way, there was simply just nothing better she had to or could do.

she had already been working for the past 4 hours and within that time, there had only been about five customers come in and out of the place; therefore, she had a lot of free time on her hands. but now, she was out of ideas and her phone was close to dying so here she was... watching this boy shop for sports supplies...

she continued to stare at him until a voice cut through the thick silence that had enveloped the store. "um... sorry but do you, by chance, have any band-aids?" the long-haired boy muttered, scratching the back of his neck, avoiding eye contact. haeri raised an eyebrow at him before snapping out of her daze and searching behind the counter for the first aid box. "don't worry! i'll still be making a purchase. didn't stop by here for no reason," he added on with an awkward, light chuckle.

he jumped a little when haeri's head popped up from the back of the counter. "it's no problem!" she spoke with a smile. "will this size band-aid suffice?"

"that should be fine, thank you." he bowed slightly and began to place the skateboard supplies from the shelves onto the counter, ready to check out.

haeri scanned the items and once she was finished, she looked up at the boy and told him the price of everything he would be buying. as he searched for his wallet, she couldn't help but take note of all the wounds, scratches, and bruises he had on his arms. and when he handed her the cash from his wallet, she also noticed a scratch on his left cheek.

she continued to stare at him while also bagging his items until she decided to start a small yet awkward conversation. "i'm going to take a small guess that all of those bruises and scratches are from skating?"

the boy's eyes widened before looking down at his arms. "oh, h-ha... yeah. i'm still just starting out so i guess you could say that i've experienced a good amount falls."

"well, could i perhaps interest you in a few more band-aids?" haeri questioned as she handed him the bag that held his items. "we have an entire box of them back here."

"oh, it's okay. i'll treat the rest at home but thank you anyways."

once again, he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck before turning and making his way towards the door. "have a good night!" he said with another slight bow, "and thank you again."

haeri pouted as the boy disappeared into the night just like her co-worker had a few minutes ago. "well now what do i do to kill time..." she whined, taking her seat behind the counter yet again.

flipping the sign on the door, haeri heaved out a sigh for at least the twentieth time tonight. "i don't think i can ever work a long shift like that again..."

after locking up the shop, she walked on the sidewalk in silence as she made her way home. she couldn't listen to music like she usually would due to her phone practically being dead. if she had known she would be working 8 hours rather than 4 today, she would've charged her phone before clocking in.

on the way to her house, there was a park and along with that was the skatepark. she peaked through the fence as she walked to see if anyone was there despite it being so late at night. and to her surprise, someone was there. someone who looked rather familiar.

haeri observed the familiar figure as they skated up and down one of the ramps with their hands inside their pockets and their hair slightly flowing behind them due to the small breeze of wind. due to this, haeri caught a quick glimpse of the persons face and noticed a light blue band-aid on their cheek.

"he left the store 4 hours ago and you're telling me he's still out here skating?" she spoke to herself in disbelief, now already past the park. "i guess some parents do just let their kids do that, huh? maybe that's a common thing nowadays... i just wouldn't know." she let out a light chuckle, shrugging it off before opening the gate to her home and making her way inside to her room.
