along her way home, haeri couldn't help but worry about beomgyu and how abruptly he had left, especially considering the emotional state he was in. but while she walked, lost in the thoughts of her jumbled up mind, she heard a voice call out to her to which she turned around in response. "oh, what's up, kai?" she waved with a small smile. "didn't think you'd still be out at this time."

"yeah, we usually hang out around here for a few hours." huening kai said before he raised an eyebrow at the lone girl. "hey, i thought you were waiting for someone after school? why are you alone now?"

"ah, something came up on their end so they had to leave early. but, we discussed what we had to for the most part so i'm just heading home now." she replied with a shrug.

kai frowned a bit as he couldn't help but notice how his best friend seemed a little worried and disappointed and that's when he suddenly came up with an idea. "oh my god! haeri!" said girl jumped a bit at the sudden enthusiasm before giving him a questioning look. "you should come hang out with me and my friends! i never got to introduce you to them, you know?" he continued as he gestured behind him to the small group of boys that were sitting in the skatepark.

haeri hesitated. "i don't know, hyuka... my parents want to have a family dinner tonight and i have to be there." although she really didn't want to go home so soon, she was also rather afraid of what her parents response to her not showing up for dinner would be like. they weren't abusive or anything, but they sure did know just what to say to make their daughter feel bad or bring her down.

"you don't have to stay long! just a few minutes at least, please?" the blond boy pleaded with a full on pout and puppy eyes. "we'll just do short introductions and if you still want to leave after that then i won't stop you, hm?" haeri sighed in defeat before nodding. kai beamed and clapped out of excitement before opening the gate and dragging his best friend through it towards the three boys who had been chatting on their skateboards.

kai excitingly waved his hands in the air to gain the attention of his friends who seemed to be deep in a debate. "mint choco is literally ass, hyung. i don't understand why you're trying so hard to defend it." argued the familiar silver-haired boy.

a gasp escaped the mouth of huening kai, shocked as well as hurt by the words that had left his friends mouth. "taehyun... i thought we were besties... how could you even say that..?" the three boys looked up, finally noticing the presence of their blond friend.

the boy who was wearing a green beanie looked up at kai with a face full of disappointment and disgust. "not you too, hyuka..."

"i knew i could trust you, huening." spoke the boy with a slit in his one eyebrow, patting his ally's back. "something is seriously wrong with the two of you, i swear. like are you going to try and tell me you like, i don't know, pistachio ice cream more than mint choco? there is no way! you'd be lying to yourself." the boy who wore a cast on his one arm now seemed to be lost in thought with the question his hyung had presented, wondering which flavor he'd rather have to eat.

eventually, he spoke as he nodded in approval with his own decision. "y'know, as a matter of fact, i do like pistachio more."

"YOU'RE LITERALLY LYING??? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?" the two mint choco enjoyers shrieked, questioning their entire friendship with the other two males.

haeri just stood there and observed as the debate grew more and more heated by the second. it seemed that none of them had realized she was there and that even kai had forgotten as he too became too engrossed in the argument.

she was lowkey becoming a little too uncomfortable just standing there. she had felt awkward and out of place. i knew this was a bad idea. i should've just went home. ugh, why is it so hard saying no to kai sometimes... the girl mentally groaned. haeri had begun to retreat from the group of teenage boys, ready to just head home, until her best friend snapped his head towards her and grabbed hold of her wrist, pulling her back.

"okay, guys. i know how to settle this debate, once and for all." each of them, including haeri, raised an eyebrow at these words. "oh wait... i almost forgot to introduce you guys! let's do that first!" letting out his signature, maniacal laugh, kai gestured for haeri to speak.

the three boys turned to her, giving her their full attention. "oh wow, okay. hi, i'm kai's childhood friend, shin haeri." she awkwardly introduced herself, not too fond of suddenly having the spotlight on her.

the blond hooked his arm with hers, "she's my best friend, by the way! not yours!" he said, teasingly sticking his tongue out at the others. haeri smiled fondly as she watched the taller boy and his childish behavior. he was always like this, a little bit possessive, but she knew it was all out of love. after all, they had been together for so long, it was only natural that they'd both be a little possessive of the other. they both refused to lose their best friend to someone else. that's just how it's always been.

"yeah, yeah. we get it," the silver haired boy waved off his friend. "nice to meet you, haeri. i'm kang taehyun, huening's classmate." he slightly bowed at her with a smile plastered on his face before gesturing at the other two to introduce themselves.

"ah yes, um, my name's choi soobin! nice to meet you!" he spoke, showing her a bright, bunny-like smile. "sorry you had to witness that little argument of ours."

"yeah, it's nice to meet you. i'm choi yeonjun." haeri nodded and slightly bowed to each of them after they concluded their introductions. she awkwardly turned to kai, not sure of what she should do now.

"ah! that's right! okay, like i was going to say before, i know the perfect way to settle this debate once and for all!" with two hands on his hips, the boy showed his friends his smug smirk. "haeri will be the final deciding factor. so, haeri-ah... are you a mint choco enjoyer or hater..?"

haeri rose an eyebrow. "shouldn't you know this by now?"

"of course i know the answer, but it'd be more dramatic and trustworthy coming from you."

"okay well," she began, "i love mint choco. it was so hard listening to you two hate on it. like i was in utter shock when taehyun said he preferred pistachio." with this, yeonjun jumped up and ran to haeri's side.

"oh my god! i love her already!" he beamed. "haeri-ah, be my best friend too, please!" the boy grabbed her arm, begging her to accept his request. but, kai pushed him off of the girl and pulled her towards him once again.

"yah, hyung! i already told you, she's my best friend. not yours."

"but we could be the mint choco trio! c'mon!"

haeri laughed at the two boys. "you guys are too much, i swear."

soobin and taehyun shook their heads in disapproval but eventually joined in on the laughter which had eventually engulfed the entire group. within those short few minutes together, haeri already managed to feel as if she fit in. to her surprise, she felt comfortable with them. it was never this easy for her when it came to making friends but today just seemed to be full of surprises. first there was beomgyu and now these three. and as sad as this might sound, this was probably the fastest she had ever made friends, to be honest.
