Throughout the day, you were never left alone in the hallways. And teachers had been informed not to let Casey near you. You were informed that starting tomorrow, she'd be getting her old schedule back, and transferring around any of the ones where she was with you. That way, there'd be no further incidents. Usually it was Stu and Tatum, or Randy. But you were always hoping at some point you'd see Billy. He'd know where Sidney was, and you wanted to talk to her.
So, when you made your way outside to go home, you were surprised when you heard she was out back by the bleachers of the football field. You had been making your way to your friends, and you heard Billy say it to Tatum, so you quickly changed what direction you were walking in. You didn't even say hi to them. You just went to find your friend. If she was still willing to let you call her that.
You found Sidney sitting in the middle of the bleachers meant for the home team. You quickly climbed up towards her, and took a seat next to her.
"I know a lot of people have already asked you this, but how are you holding up," you asked.
"Absolutely shitty. Mom's gone, I can't give Billy what he wants, and everything reminds me about how my life is falling apart," she admitted.
"I want to apologize," you told her.
"What for? You didn't do anything wrong."
"I told Stu something, and I don't think anyone likes Casey anymore. And I'm pretty sure that she wants to kill me now. And I know you just lost your mom, and now I've ripped apart your friendgroup, and I'm sorry."
"You don't need to be sorry," she stated. "Everyone knew Casey was willing to spread her legs for anyone. That's one of the main reasons she got with Stu. Apparently he's quite the catch. We all know she'd do something, it was more like a matter of when."
Sidney seemed far more aggressive than usual, but she was also going through a whole lot of shit right now. Her acting like this was probably healthy, it meant that she was getting her emotions out in a way that didn't hurt anyone. Actually, it may hurt Casey's feelings, but she seemed like an asshole.
"You know, it's probably a good thing you told Stu. He doesn't deserve to get swindled by her. Or anyone. He's too blunt sometimes, and can come across as real rude, but he means well," she said.
"Well, I was taught to always be honest. Especially with something that... heavy."
"So, honesty was a major thing for you growing up?"
"Yeah. I was taught that the truth always comes out, whether we like it or not. And the longer we wait to tell the truth, and the more you lie, the worse the truth starts to seem. So it's best to just get it out of the way."
"Probably smart. But it almost makes the truth seem like a burden."
"In a case like this, it might as well be."
She sighed and looked out to the field, watching as other students passed by, going on with their afternoons.
"Everyone keeps saying my mom was a whore," Sidney suddenly told you. "She was apparently raped before she got killed. Now everyone's saying she was something like a famous porn star around town with the men."
"Is it true?"
"No! Absolutely not! She would never do something like that, I know it!"
"Alright. I believe you. And I know it probably sounds cheap coming from someone you've known less than a month, but I do feel really bad for you, and I'd like to offer my condolences. You're mom sounds like she was a wonderful woman," you told her.
"Thank you. She was. She really, really was."
You quickly pulled Sidney into a hug, and she began to cry. She was sobbing into your shoulder, and you began to rub her back to try and help keep her calm. You were willing to wait here all day if she needed. You remembered when your mother passed away, you just needed someone to lean on. You didn't know if Sidney had that with her dad right now, so you'd gladly stay with her and help her however she needed.
"God, I just want her back," Sidney cried.
You didn't say anything, and just let her do her thing. Eventually, her grip loosened, and she pulled away. You kept sitting next to her, waiting to make sure she was really okay before you left.
"Why does god take away good people," she asked.
"I don't know. But has anyone ever told you the flower comparison?"
"What?"
"Well, when you tend to a garden, you always pick the prettiest flowers first. So when it comes to the universe, the best people tend to go first," you explained. "Sadly, your mother just so happened to be prettier than us, so she had to leave before us."
Sidney sniffled, looked at you, and smiled.
"She was one of the fucking prettiest," Sidney giggled, tears still running down her face.
You both stayed on the bleachers, just sitting there in a comfortable silence. But that silence was soon interrupted by a shouting Randy.
"HEY (Y/N)!! SIDNEY!! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!?!"
"We're up here Ray," Sidney shouted back.
The sound of heavy thumping on the thin metal echoed around the area, and Randy soon appeared in front of you both.
"Hey guys, I have two questions," he told you. "1. We were wondering if we should do a Friendsgiving thing since Halloween was skipped over due to... certain circumstances. 2. I actually need to talk to (y/n) in private for this one."
"I should probably be heading home anyways. I'll see you both tomorrow," Sidney said.
She began to walk off, and Randy quickly took her place on the bench next to you.
"So, do you have a job yet," he interrogated.
"No, why?"
"Do you want one?"
"I mean... sure? Money sounds awesome."
"Do you like movies?"
"Where are you going with this," you asked, somewhat annoyed by his antics.
"Well, I'm going to let you in on some insider information," Randy said, leaning in a bit. "Blockbuster always gets swamped around the holidays. Apply a week before Thanksgiving, and you're sure to get hired."
"So, you want to be co-workers?"
"Just trying to help out a friend."
"Well, I'd love to take you up on this offer. Prepare to see a lot more of me," you warned.
