Wade into the deep with me
Submerge into the cold
To discover what we long to remember

How to feel alive.

The inhale to breathe something new
Makes everything dormant start to stir
It brings to me a life renewed.

I can feel what I believed was gone
I can feel alive
I can feel
I'm alive.
I'm alive, and at ease.

For a time I can breathe
And float along
Careless and aloof
A blessing rarely awarded.

I rise to surface again
To being my head out of the depths
The air shocks my lungs
A harsh, sharp awakening awaits me.

Desperation pushes me under
Reaching for the vice again
To breathe easy once more.

Again
as it erodes me from the inside out.
Again
as I start to drown inside it.
Again
as it coils around my limbs and neck.
Again
while blinded by delusions and denial.

Once fluid and free
But now, trapped and bound in tar.

Starving.
Suffocating.
Sinking.

A shambling shell of a man
Waiting
For the next fix.
Hoping
To make his heart
Feel anything but numb again.
