I didn't know what to do.

I could'nt go back home.

Not now.

He'd be waiting for me.

I can see him now.

His face shadowed as he sits.

There will be beer bottles littering the floor.

He'll stare at his watch.

And hell clench his belt tighter.

Natasha walked calmly along the sidewalk.

She had places to hide.

She stuffed her hands deeper into her pockets as her boots slapped against the pavement, watching as her breath floated and faded like smoke in the lamplight.

Suddenly she heard something.

A strangeled cry.

Violent sobbs ensued.

She knew that sound.

The heartwrenching hopelessness of the abused and misused.

A silloette was doubled over in the darkness.

That sound filled her room every night.

She approached the figure, hypnotized by the heartbreak.

As she got closer she could see more clearly.

The brown hair that stuck to her face.

The violent shaking as sobbs escaped her.

She couched by the figure, instinctivly wrapping her arms arond her.

She heard her breath hitch.

She pulled the girl closer, clutching her to her chest.

" It's okay "

She found herself whispering.

" You're not alone."

" You're safe.

Slowly she looked up.

I had never seen such pain before.

It filled her eyes, screaming with agony.

Our eyes met, and for a second, I saw something else glimmer.

Perhaps hope, or estranged, impossible familiarity.

And then it was gone.

I didn't know what to say or do.

So I asked the question I wished anyone had ever asked me before.

" Do you need a place to hide?"

She nodded weakly before burrying her face in the crook of my neck.

And for one second I felt something.

A faint flutter, something other than fear or numbness.

I helped the now whimpering girl to her feet, tears still streaming down her face.

I lead her to a place only I knew about.

My safe haven.

Wanda followed the fire haired girl down empty streets and through cluttered allyways, the lamplight blurring, jumping around in the corner of her eye.

After awhile they eventually arrived to an old, abandoned building.

The girl leading her atop a garbage dumpster to a window where boards had been ripped off, just enough for a person to conceivably climb through.
