THAT NIGHT, THE GHOST SHOWED THEM HOW TO CLIMB HIGHER than they ever had before, taking them all the way to the rafters above the Great Hall. Up there, they perched on heavy wooden beams and caught their breaths. Beneath them, the preparations for the Coronation went on. Blue velvets and hammered silvers and golden tablecloths were rolled out, each one decorated with the House of Greenbriar sigil ━━━━━━ a tree of thorns and roots. Allura looked down at the servants below her and wondered if they knew what kind of King they were getting ready for. Of course not. Because, unlike her, they had yet to look into the eyes of a monster twisting the blade they have killed you with.
The Coronation.
It had seemed so far away.
And yet, there it was, only hours ahead on the night that they had killed.
"Do you think that things will be better after Prince Dain is crowned High King?" Jude asked the Ghost.
He flashes the girls a brief smile before shaking his head sadly. "Things will be as they always are. Only more so."
