TITLE OVER WITH OPENING CREDITS
THE GEM OF PARAN

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME M.O. BY CHER.

EXT. JERUSALEM - DAY

SWEEP IN from above, to the city of Jerusalem during the
reign of the mighty King David.

Amidst the first light bustle of the sights (and smells) of
sheep, goats, donkeys, cattle, camel, and chickens squawking
the ROYAL OFFICERS hawk orders to the shepherds and herdsmen
as they take the Kings herds out to pasture.

EXT. DONKEY CORRAL - DAY

Swirling out from a sea of faces, TZEFAN, a handsome young
herdsman begins his day as always. He sees his mother
weeping, his four brothers and baby sister, his father's
anguish, his betrothed reaching out to him, as he walks
away, forever. He is lost in these thoughts as he gathers
together all his needed utensils, placing them in a large
grain sack and dragging it to a waiting pack donkey. As
Tzefan struggles to lift the oversized bag off the ground
the donkey steps aside, the bag drops at his feet and all
the contents spill out.

Tzefan gives the donkey a disgusted look.

He bends down gathering the items into the sack again when
he is suddenly grabbed from behind and drug by his cloaks to
the stable gates where he is forcefully pushed out, the bag
of utensils flying out after him.

EXT. SHEEP GATE - DAY

JEHDEIAH
(kicks Tzefan)
Get out in the field hard head!
(mumbling loudly)
Your always the last one out.

The pack donkey rushes past Tzefan with a high kick.
Pack donkey BRAYS loudly running down the road.

EXT. ROAD - DAY

ASEF, RAVEED, NURI and JAPHET, standing by the road, chuckle
and laugh.

EXT. ROAD - DAY

Tzefan picks himself up, looks back at Jehdeiah and spits to
the ground insultingly. Dusting off, he skulks reluctantly
along behind the massive herd of cross back donkeys, in no
hurry to catch up.

EXT. ROAD - DAY

As Tzefan trails along behind the King's donkeys, the herds
keepers and shepherds watch with lifted brows and sad
glances. It is clear they feel sorry for him, in
particular, the Shulamite girl, who, to the disdain of the
others, falls into step along with him.

CLOSE ON the beautiful, dark skinned Shulamite girl as they
move out together from the walled city and down the well
worn road into the countryside where they will graze the
flocks.
