EXT. MOUNTAIN RIDGE - NIGHT

Far above the King's valley two men are watching the
u

nfolding drama. It
is Jehdeiah, the Kings officer over the
stewards who keep the flocks, and SHAPHAT, the officer of
the cattle.

JEHDEIAH
T

hey're a quarrelsome lot tonight
aren't they.

SHAPHAT
Most nights.

JEHDEIAH
Whatever do they find to fight
over?

SHAPHAT
I don't have those answers
Jehdeiah.

JEHDEIAH
Mmmm. Uncivilized.

SHAPHAT
Extremely.
(yawning)
It's a burden if anything.

Shaphat whistles to a young man down the hill, and waves.

The steward turns and waves back, nodding.

SHAPHAT
I'm turning in. Are you coming?

JEHDEIAH
I'll be along shortly.

S

HAPHAT

(chiding)
Don't contaminate yourself. We
have a...vexing day ahead us
tomorrow.

JEHDEIAH
I

thought I would try to ah,
forget about it awhile.

SHAPHAT
(feigned surprise)
The Kings address? Really?

JEHDEIAH
We all know what's to be said.
David is only making it official.

SHAPHAT
(dripping disgust)
Never-the-less. The whole
population of Jerusalem will be
there. What a mess. I despise
crowds.

(spits
dramatically)

JEHDEIAH
(smiles)
Cheer up friend. At least there
will be drinking...and feasting.

Shaphat walks off without looking back.

JEHDEIAH
(

whispering)
Ah yes, the Kings all important
address. I believe I shall
thoroughly enjoy it, and all the
little festivities.
