KESTOR (hollering and running) Micah! There is a large army coming up from the hills!
Micah jumps up, as do the others who hear the announcement from Kestor. Chasya runs out from the women's tent. They meet halfway. In moments a crowd has gathered to see the marching troops.
From where she stands among the nut tree orchards, Temira has seen the travelling regiment and heard the shouts. Running, she quickly makes her way back to the main camp, among her people, and finding her mother and Micah they all watch as the large company of soldiers grows closer and closer.
Suddenly, Temira hears a GASP from somewhere in the crowd.
KEFINA It's not an army! It is the King's Royal Procession! It must be King Solomon!
RIMONA (with awe) He is wearing his father's wedding crown!
NAAVA Magnificent!
The shepherdesses swoon.
As the entire party approaches it turns and cutting into the
crowd heads straight for Temira and her mother. All the people give way and as the palanquin stops in front of her, she stands frozen in time seeing not the King, but her shepherd, staring back at her. The carriers of the travelling couch set it lightly upon the ground and he stands up. A swordsman takes Bathsheba's hand and helps her from her horse. They come together and her shepherd raises his hand to the people. Temira is dumbfounded as everyone goes to one knee before him.
SOLOMON Arise my people!
Everyone stands and silence falls over the hills of Israel. The wind carries Solomons voice to every ear.
SOLOMON I have come here today for one reason. To ask for the hand of the one that I love, in marriage.
A gasp moves through the gathering, as everyone looks around in question, wondering who is this special one their King is talking about.
Solomon steps up to Temira and takes her hand. She sways a little and Micah steadies her.
SOLOMON (loudly) I ask... for the hand of Temira the Shulamite! Is there one here today who can give her in marriage?
CHASYA (boldly) I can.
SOLOMON And you are?
CHASYA I am her mother.
SOLOMON (looking boldly over the faces of his people) Is there anyone here to disapprove?
Silence envelopes the moment as Solomon waits. No one says a word. Finally, Solomon kneels on one knee at her feet.
SOLOMON (looking up into her eyes now sparkling with unshed tears) Temira the Shulamite would you agree to be the wife of the King? Would you be, my wife?
She looks around at all the faces of her people surrounding her and then at her mother. Chasya nods.
With all the bravery she can muster Temira looks back at her shepherd, the King, and nods her head.
TEMIRA Yes, I will. (also kneeling down on one knee to face him.) I will my King, marry you.
The whole crowd cheers and Solomon picks Temira up and places her in the palanquin. He helps his mother mount her horse, he mounts his own horse and the regiment moves forth into rank.
