INT. SOLOMONS PRIVATE QUARTERS - DAY

Solomon, having returned from the fields, is confronted by

JONATHON, his father's uncle and hired counselor. Solomon

doesn't want to hear Johnathon's words about King David as

they only bring fear to his heart.

JONATHON
Solomon, your father is dying.

SOLOMON
I'll not hear it! Not another word
of it. My father will live and
see his son sit on the throne over
the kingdom God has blessed us
with!

JONATHON

You should prepare yourself.

SOLOMON
That is ridiculous uncle. My
father has years to live and there
is so much going on right now.

JONATHON
So much of what? Courting that
Shulamite girl down in the
pastures? Really Solomon,
shouldn't you be more discreet.

Solomon jerks around and walks up to his father's uncle.

SOLOMON
Y

ou will cease this talk. I honor
you as my father's uncle, but you
will not interfere in my personal
life.

JONATHON
T

ell that to your Officials and
palace help. They can't talk
enough about it.

SOLOMON
You are dismissed, uncle.

After Jonathon has gone, Solomon slowly dresses in his
s

hepherds garb. He leaves the palace from a camel gate and
doesn't look back.

INT. PALACE BALCONY - DAY

Jonathon, JOAB, the King's nephew and MIKLOTH, a chief
o

fficer of King David's court gathered on the private balcony
in Jonathon's quarters and gravely discuss the situation concerning Solomon.

JONATHON
W

e must put a stop to Solomon's
foolishness. He's becoming a
laughingstock all over the city.

JOAB
H

ow do you propose we put a stop
to anything Solomon does? Have
you forgotten he will soon take
his father's place on the throne.

J

ONATHON

That is the very reason we must
act quickly. It is for his own
good.

M

IKLOTH

What you are suggesting, however,
may not be in our best interest.

JONATHON
Why is that Mikloth?

MIKLOTH

His wrath, Jonathon.

JONATHON
(

scornfully)
His wrath, Mikloth? We have been
hired to protect the interest of
this kingdom. Are you telling me
you are now suddenly afraid of
doing your job?
What of both you and Joab's past evil
accomplishments carried out for
David? This is no different.

(with finality)

Dispose of the girl. I don't care
how, just do it.

MIKLOTH
As you wish, Jonathon.
