Volume 1; Chap 4.3

"That's right, you're the killer…" Ranpo pointed at the said killer, "I know that you did it, sergeant Sugimoto."

"Huh…?"

"He did it?" Atsushi asked.

After a pause, Mr. Minoura started laughing. "Sergeant Sugimoto works for me on the force." Mr. Minori said as if you didn't already know that.

"Sergeant Sugimoto is the one who killed her." Ranpo replied back.

"Don't be ridiculous! What stupid killer would wanna come to the scene of the crime?!" Mr. Minoura inquired.

"That's precisely why he's here. He wants to stay close to the investigation. And in case I didn't mention, I know where we can find the evidence to prove it." Ranpo turned his body to Mr. Minoura, and later turned his head to Mr. Sugimoto and asked to see his gun.

"Y-You've gotta be kidding me! I can't just hand over my firearm to a civilian! They would take my badge away!" Mr. Sugimoto yelled at Ranpo.

"How convenient for you Ranpo, your source of evidence is the one thing you can't look at." Mr. Minoura mocked.

"But look at it this way, if we examine that gun and come up empty, then you prove you're right and I'm an idiot with a big mouth." Ranpo said with great confidence.

"Hm..I've had enough of listening to your annoying voice. Sugimoto, show him your gun!" Mr. Minoura ordered.

"But sir…"

"This so-called detective has barked at this tree as far as he can go. If we prove him wrong, he'll shut up and go home. Go on, you can show him your gun."

Despite Mr.  Minoura's order, Mr. Sugimoto didn't move.

"Hey, what's the matter, Sugimoto?"

"Even in this city, it isn't easy for an amateur to get spare ammo, even harder if the firearm is a government-issue." Ranpo explained.

"Why aren't you saying anything, Sugimoto?!" Mr. Minoura yelled.

"He's quiet but I think his mind is racing. Specifically, he's thinking about the three bullets he's used. And how he'll explain their absence." Ranpo explained.

Mr. Sugimoto's eyes widened with shock and fear. Mr. Minoura kept yelling at him and telling him to show them his gun, but Sugimoto still didn't move, but kept his head down.

Sugimoto sighed and slowly reached into his hollister. He pulled out his gun, but you heard a click.

'Oh no…'

Mr. Sugimoto pointed his gun at Ranpo. Before he could do anything, Dazai got behind Atsushi and pushed him toward Sugimoto. Atsushi tackled Sugimoto and managed to pin him down.

The rest of the men that were there surrounded them and Sugimoto yelled to let him go and claimed that it wasn't him.

"Running away won't help, I've already determined the murder took place early yesterday morning at the abandoned shipyard. Just a few hundred meters upstream from here."

"H-how'd you know that?"

"I'm sure we'll find more evidence there, including your footprints and hers. And the blood stains you tried, but failed to erase.." Ranpo smirked at Mr. Sugimoto.

"How could you know that? No one could've figured it all out.."

"Ok, save your confession, 'till we're back at the station. Might be your last time there." Mr. Minoura pulled out a pair of handcuffs.

Back at the station, Mr. Sugimoto confessed everything. What he did to become a police officer, how he tried to convince Ms. Yamagiwa to give up the information she had, and how he killed her.

Ranpo had guessed her final words, Mr. Sugimoto broke into tears.

Once that was all over, you were hungry and exhausted, but mostly hungry. The sun was starting to set so it was too early to sleep in your opinion, but it wasn't too early to have some dinner.

You were about to leave the police station before you all heard a voice behind you.

"Thank you, I suppose."

You all turned to see and saw Mr. Minoura standing there.

Also, "I'm sorry I doubted your special powers. We'll come to you the next time we get a tough case." You could tell he had to swallow some of his pride to say that to Ranpo.

"If you need my Ultra-Deduction abilities, all you have to ask, detective. I may even give you a discount." Ranpo offered.

"Appreciate the offer." Mr. Minoura smiled for the first time.

You were finally walking back to the Agency. You were planning on eating something as soon as you arrived.

Even though you didn't really do much, you were still tired so you jumped onto Rampo's back as soon as you started walking.

So now, Ranpo is giving you a piggyback ride as Dazai and Atsushi walked behind the both of you.

Your head was resting on Ranpo's shoulder before you decided to look back and see how far behind Dazai and Atsushi were. Not too far behind, it seems they were only chatting, though you couldn't hear what about.

You were just playing with Ranpo for the time being. You took his hat, put it on, and hopped off his back before he could get it back.

You were running away from him but not too far away to the point you would get separated from Dazai and Atsushi. After all, Ranpo didn't know how to take the train, and you didn't have any money.

You ran towards Dazai and Atsushi while Ranpo was running behind you. You jumped onto Atsushi and hid behind him. That's when Ranpo remembered he needs to get back to the Agency but doesn't know how.

"Somebody's not doing their job!" Ranpo yelled, "you're supposed to help me find my way back to the Agency, y'know?" Ranpo was waving his hands left and right.

"I think I kinda get it now." Atsushi suddenly said.

"Huh?" You and Dazai hummed simultaneously.

"Why everyone at the Agency trusts Ranpo and tells him how great he is.." Atsushi answered.

Dazai smiled and looked ahead back at Ranpo.

"Wait…what're you talking about? Ranpo's awesome!" You pumped your fist in the air and ran back over to Ranpo and returned his hat.

Ranpo took his hat, put it on, and smiled…

"All's well that's well for me."

Alright Alright, so the new season 5 trailer..I love it. Dazai looks so gooood 😩

Speaking of season 5, my original plan was to make a separate book for each season, but with season 5 coming out in a month, I don't think 5 books for one story is very... convenient..?

So what I'ma do is, continue with this book into season 2 as volume one and maybe start a new one for season 3.

Since technically, season 2 is still volume 2, idk if I'ma name those chapters with continuation of Volume 1 or if I'ma name them with Volume 2.

Please help me decide, I can't decide myself 😭🙏
