You were walking into Shepherd's office, not sure what to expect. You hated this place. The only person I liked was my best friend, Mai.

You met Mai in high school, and both decided to join the military. You love her with your whole heart, and you knew she did too.

You heard fast and heavy footsteps behind you. You quickly took your pocket knife from your holster and got prepared to throw it, when you saw a familiar face.

"Woah there, soldier. It's just me!" Mai said, smiling.

You sighed and put your pocket knife back, and hugged her. "What are you doing here?" You asked her.

"I was called to Shepherd's office, what about you?"

"I was too. Hm, I hope we're going somewhere together again." You said.

"Like all the times before? We're practically conjoined twins." Mai jokingly said, laughing.

"Literally." I replied. We reached Shepherd's office, Mai was about to open the door, but I slapped her hand.

"Manners." I sternly said, half joking.

"Sorry.." She made an amusing puppy dog eye face.

I chuckled before knocking on the door, then hearing a faint, "Come in." I opened the door, and me and Mai slowly walked in.

Shepherd turned his office chair around and stood up, facing us.

"The reason I called both of you here is because I'm assigning you a mission, with a different task force."

Mai turned her head towards me, looking confused. I rolled my eyes.

"Task Force 141. They've been trying to capture a missile, and are slightly struggling. I wanted both of you to come since I know you guys work the best together, and you guys are very skillful."

I nodded, and Mai did the same.

"Captain Price will meet you outside the base, with all of the Task Force members. You both have an hour to pack."

"Yes, sir." Mai and I said in unison.

We turned around and started walking back to our rooms.

"Gosh, a task force? This is gonna be exciting." Mai smiled.

"Hopefully."

I just got done packing, so I decided to eat a little snack while waiting for Mai.

I heard a door open and quickly turned around.

"Are you ready?" Mai asked.

"No, I'm just eating a snack while we have 10 minutes left." I've always loved being sarcastic.

"Sarcasm as always?" But Mai always hated it.

I rolled my eyes as I threw away my cracker wrapper and bit my last piece. "Let's go." I stood up and looked at Mai, she looked fully prepared.

We walked down the hall, and out the door, seeing Shepherd outside. Gosh, I don't know why I have butterflies.
