THE WAVES CRASHED IN front of Belly and Joanna

THE WAVES CRASHED IN front of Belly and Joanna. The two girls sat on the beach, changed out of their dresses, and now in more comfortable and baggy clothing.

"I still cannot believe she said yes." Joanna's smile looked vibrant to Belly.

"You did it. You changed her mind." Belly smiled with her.

Jo shook her head, "it was all Jere, really. He's got the cute charm for some reason." She joked. A small batch of laughter was shared between the two before silence fell again. And then Joanna spoke without thinking, "Belly, I'm sorry for being shitty. Like, really shitty, all summer." She apologized.

"Well, you were going through a lot... all alone." She whispered. "You kept quiet about your deep feelings, I wish you would've told me and let me, at least, try and help."

Joanna stayed quiet, tucking a hair behind her ear, "I wanted to. My mind is a fucking mess right now. And it's always set to the mindset of the people you love before yourself... you know." She shrugged. "It wasn't easy."

The girls held eye contact, and just when Jo thought something would happen, Belly turned away, "uhm, maybe we should go in." She suggested.

But Jo wouldn't let something so stupid ruin them again. "There's a lot I want to say to you. Like, a lot."

Belly quickly stood up at that confession. "Don't. Not now." She advised as she stood up.

Jo stood, grabbing Belly's hand. "Why?" She asked.

"Because you really really need somebody right now, and... II don't want to be the kind of person who takes advantage of that," Belly confessed.

Joanna shook her head, "I don't need someone." Jo paused, "I need you."

Belly shook her head, "I don't want you to need me. I want you to want me." She stated.

The Fisher girl stayed quiet, looking between Belly's lips and her eyes, "trust me, Belly, I've waited for you for years. I do want you." She confessed with a smile on her lips as she slowly brought a hand to Belly's face, slowly beginning to close the gap between the two.

And then, as their lips brushed against one another, Belly sucked in a breath, "are you sure?" She whispered.

"I've waited for you for years."  The blonde confessed, an alternative way of saying 'yes'.

"You have?"

Joanna nodded and then glanced back down at Belly's lips before placing them on hers, igniting something inside Jo as she felt Belly's hand fall on her neck, pulling her closer if that had been possible.

Butterflies filled her stomach as they pulled away, smiling at each other, before connecting their lips again, Belly tilted her head to the side and Jo smiled as they kissed more.

The waves, the birds, the sand under their feet.

And them, Jo and Belly, Belly and Jo.

And them, Jo and Belly, Belly and Jo
