Apology.

A week passed. Despite the pain that I was still feeling, I felt well enough to wander around the base. The frustration of not being able to join any missions was eating away at me, and I felt like I was going stir-crazy.

The boredom was driving me to distraction, and I didn't know how much longer I could last without getting back into the thick of things.

Price was being too much of a dad and denying my request to join the missions.

The warm sun beamed down on my skin as I made my way outside and towards the lake where the team had swam not long ago. The cool breeze blew through my hair, and I took in a deep breath of the fresh, earthy air.

The lake shimmered in the sunlight, beckoning me to come closer and take a dip. The tranquillity of the moment was soothing, and for a moment, I forgot about the troubles that had been weighing on me.

I settled against the trunk of a tall tree, my eyes on the serene waters of the lake before me. As I lost myself in thought, my mind strayed to the rest of the team and their current missions. I wondered what kinds of dangerous situations they must be in, and if they were safe, or holding up under the pressure. God, I hope.

The questions danced in my mind like the gentle ripples on the surface of the lake, my mind lost in thought.

As I stood there in the dappled shade of the tree, I began to feel a heaviness settle over me. It was as if the soft summer air had a hold on me, drawing me further into a state of relaxation.

But as my eyes started to flutter shut and my mind began to drift into dreams, I was jolted back to the present by the sound of a twig snapping. It was faint, but it was there, bringing me fully alert in an instant. I snapped my head around, pistol raised, in the direction the sound had come from.

As I scanned the area for the source of the sound that had jolted me back into reality, my eyes locked onto a familiar figure slowly making its way toward the lake's edge.

It was König, but why was he here? He didn't know of my presence, as he was focused on the ground in front of him. I watched him closely, waiting to see what he was up to.

His toned back faced me as he sat down on the edge of the lake, dipping his hand in.

As König came closer, putting his hands on his mask, I couldn't help but feel like I was intruding on something that wasn't my business. Suddenly, the thought of him removing his mask and revealing his true face had my curiosity piqued.

But the dilemma of whether to violate his privacy or not was quickly solved when I spoke up. "What are you doing?" I said, my voice piercing the silence. König flinched at the sudden noise, the surprise evident in his body language.

"Du hast mich erschreckt," his voice was low, letting out a chuckle and shaking his head. He put his hands down, resting them on the side of his body.

As König turned to me, our eyes locked in what felt like a moment frozen in time. My breath hitched, as I found myself lost in the depths of his eyes. The intensity of our gaze was palpable as if there was an invisible force pulling our eyes toward each other. God, his eyes are beautiful.

What? Ew.

For a moment, I had forgotten what he said during the last mission.

I bit down on the inner side of my cheek, not wanting to argue with him.

He looked up at me as I approached. I looked down at him, studying his expression, wondering what had brought him here. "What language is that?" I asked, gesturing to him. König seemed to flinch at the sudden question, and I realized that maybe I'd caught him off guard. He hesitated for a moment, weighing whether to talk to me.

Does he truly despise me that much he doesn't know if he should talk to me?

"It's German," he said finally, his accent thick. He broke eye contact, facing toward the lake.

I nodded, despite him not being able to see it. I glanced towards the lake, the beauty of it keeping me in awe.

König's voice was husky as he spoke. He looked up at me, then back to the lake, as if he were trying to find the right words. "I wanted to apologize..." he began, his voice trailing off.

He paused, dipping his hand in the water, and I couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt. It was clear that my earlier behaviour had affected him.

"For earlier," he said, his words almost lost in the breeze. "I'm sorry..." he added, his voice still low.

König's apology was short and to the point, and I could tell that he was genuinely remorseful. I nodded at his words, my arms crossed behind my back. "I don't forgive you," I said, my tone just as short as he had been.

He seemed to understand, and the silence stretched out between us. We stayed by each other for a while, our eyes glued to the serenity of the lake.

"Aren't you supposed to be on a mission?" I asked, glancing down at him before looking back at the lake.

König hesitated for a moment, shaking his head. "Not yet," he finally replied. "Tomorrow." The words hung in the air, and we both remained silent, the peaceful tranquility of the lake a stark contrast to the unspoken tension between us.

I guess tomorrow will be boring.
