𝒾 𝒸𝒶𝓃'𝓉 𝓈𝓁𝑒𝑒𝓅

ɴɪɢʜᴛᴛɪᴍᴇ ɪɴ ꜰᴀʀᴀᴡᴀʏ Town was always nice. Just about everyone was sleeping, the stars were out, and it was so quiet. That was why Aubrey always went on a walk whenever she couldn't sleep. She liked the feeling of being alone at night with only some animals around. Maybe some people would consider it creepy, but she always found it oddly comforting.

When she went on these walks, she would just walk around Faraway. The last place she went to before going home was always her and her childhood friends' old hang-out spot. The place was nice at night, especially during the summer when there were fireflies there.

She was usually alone on the walks. Not this time, though. She didn't even make it to the playground before she heard a familiar voice say, "Aubrey, wait up!"

Her heart quickened at the voice, and she tried to get it to return to normal as she waited for Kel to catch up.

"Hi, Aubrey!" he said.

"Hey." She nodded. "What are you doing here?"

Kel smiled. "I could ask you the same thing."

Aubrey shrugged. "I couldn't sleep, and I just walk around when that happens."

"I can't sleep either!" he exclaimed. "I saw you outside, so I thought I might as well do whatever you were doing with you."

Aubrey couldn't help but smile. Kel could just do that to her especially.

"So, are you going anywhere?" Kel asked.

"Not really," Aubrey answered. "You can go back home if you want. I'm gonna be home soon anyway."

"I'll go home when you do. So let's walk wherever together!" Kel held Aubrey's hand, and she hoped it wasn't sweaty, even if it was cold outside.

Ever since Sunny told them how Mari actually died, everything had been confusing and awkward. No one seemed to know how to feel, and seeing anyone part of their old friend group felt weird. Aubrey tried to forget about it by hanging out with only the Hooligans, but it didn't work.

Maybe it was because no one wanted the friend group to go back to being how it was before, but they tried to be by each other's side this time. It  was kind of uncomfortable to be around Sunny or Basil, but they tried to make it work.

Good still came out of it though. One was her new relationship. Romantic relationship. Or was it an almost-romantic relationship? Her younger days spent dreaming of meeting her future partner and going on cute dates and doing romantic things together didn't prepare her for this—but it wasn't like her Prince Charming was the royalist of Charmings.

All she knew was that she started noticing a   lot about Kel. Like the way he blew his bangs whenever it was hot, or how he always had that frustrated but also concentrating look on his face when he got told something he wanted to remember and it was so obvious he was repeating it over in his head. She also started thinking about how his eyes were pretty and how nice his smile was. She was also thinking about him when he wasn't there and so many other stuff.

It wasn't until a few months later when all the noticing and thinking started that she realized she liked him in a romantic way. But considering how they just found out how Mari died, she ignored those feelings and focused on more important things. Kel probably didn't even feel the same way.
