ᴛᴏᴅᴀʏ ᴡᴀs ᴛʜᴇ day Kel's friends Mari and Sunny were performing at their recital they practiced so much for! They had waited to do it for months, and Kel couldn't wait to see them play and support them fully!

But that wasn't until later—hours later. He could wait, but he also wanted to have it come by quicker. For now, he had to get ready.

"Do I need a haircut?" he groaned to his mother. "I look fine!"

His mother narrowed his eyes. "Kelsey, your hair is going to fall over your eyes anytime now. One day, you're going to trip because of it. You're getting your haircut. You want to look nice for your friends, don't you?"

Kel didn't say anything, but that only was because she used his full name. People that said "Kelsey" instead of "Kel" were either being really serious, really mad, or just trying to annoy him.

Kel's friend, Aubrey, and her father were coming with him and his father. Aubrey was getting her hair cut the same day as him, so they decided to go together. Kel's older brother Hero teased them about getting into an argument somewhere on the trip, but they promised him they would get along. No arguing on Mari and Sunny's special day!

Kel's father was driving them there. Aubrey had entered the car with a bag filled with clothes. When she saw him looking at it, she said, "These are the clothes I'm wearing to the recital. My mom suggested I bring them with me, so I don't have to come back home and change when I can find somewhere at the mall."

"That's smart." Should he go get his suit while they were still there?

"Your mom suggested the same thing," his father said, "but it was more like an order. Your clothes are with me."

Kel smiled. Today was going to go great! Nothing could ruin it! Not even a typical Kel and Aubrey argument! He would try his absolute hardest to not argue with her just so Mari and Sunny can have the spotlight they deserved!

. . .

ᴀᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴀɪʀᴅʀᴇssᴇʀ, they were allowed to go at the same time. Kel was just getting a trim, but Aubrey wanted to look her absolute best.

She spent a while before she was happy with the whatever she chose, but she wouldn't let him know what she picked.

"It's a surprise!" she would say whenever he asked.

Kel was finding it very hard to not get into an argument.

Aubrey was satisfied with everything, gently swinging her legs back and forth while she read a magazine. A faint smile was on her lips, her dark brown eyes focused on only her magazine. That meant she didn't notice Kel staring at her while her hairdresser hummed a soft tune as he brushed her hair. He had an urge to shove him out of the way so he could be the one to run his fingers through her dark hair that he knew she took care of.

Kel was so busy staring at her that he didn't notice his hairdresser trying to get his attention. When he finally did, he was met with an annoyed look he was all-too familiar with. However, she smiled at him after a moment.

What did that smile mean? He had a feeling he should be worried about it.

"I used to be in your place once," she quietly said as she turned his head to be straight, going back to working on his hair. "I remember exactly what it's like."
