Normal POV
A faint rustling filled the air, slowly, she stirred, her lashes fluttering open. But it wasn't Inari's soft burgundy gaze that met the dim light of the unfamiliar room.
Crimson.
Eyes as red as freshly spilled blood.
Her vision was hazy at first, her body sluggish and sore. Her head throbbed, a dull ache pounding behind her temples as though she had been asleep for centuries.
Her fingers twitched against the silken fabric beneath her.
'Where... am I?'
A flash of confusion crossed her face. This wasn't the Heian palace. The air smelled different—foreign. It was thick with after-sex and salt, but there was something else mixed in.
Something... familiar.
As she tried to sit up, a weight pressed down on her, pinning her to the bed.
"Tch..."
Her eyes dropped to the figure lying sprawled across her lap. His head rested against her stomach, one arm loosely wrapped around her waist as if claiming her.
His breathing was slow and steady, his face peaceful—innocent, even.
A brat.
Her lips curled in disdain, her crimson eyes narrowing. He looked young—too young to be lying beside her like this, his body practically draped over hers.
'Who...?'
Her gaze drifted downward, and her expression darkened.
"What the hell?"
Sadako's lips parted in shock. This... wasn't her body. Not entirely.
Her delicate hands, which had always moved with grace and precision, now felt foreign. Faint bruises marred her pale skin, her nails—shorter than she ever kept them—painted a soft pink.
Her hair, which should have spilled freely down her ankles, tumbled down her shoulders in loose waves, lighter than her usual shade.
Her body felt... different. Weaker.
'This... isn't my body...'
Sadako frowned, tracing the faint marks left behind on her skin—light indentations on her wrists, a scattering of bite marks along her collarbone. Evidence of intimacy that didn't belong to her.
"Hmph... a couple, huh?" Her voice came out sultry, slightly deeper than before, laced with an ancient allure that wasn't quite Inari's own.
"Interesting..."
Her gaze dropped to her hands once more, and she closed her eyes, focusing inward, reaching out with her senses...
The core.
The steady pulse of energy, faint but familiar, thrummed beneath the surface.
"There you are..." Sadako's fingers brushed over her chest, she could feel it—the essence of the body she now inhabited.
She reached deeper, then—
A jolt.
A wave of warmth, so familiar it made her breath catch.
"Sakura..."
Her eyes flew open, her lips pressing into a thin line as realization dawned.
"Of course." Sadako sighed, her expression softening.
Her sister..
Her soul had been pulled into her sister's form.
Sadako lifted herself, though the ache between her legs made her wince. She shifted, propping herself up with one arm as she glanced down again at the man—no, the brat—who stirred slightly but remained blissfully asleep.
