Raphael gave me an unfathomable smile. “Yes that is all. Except, good luck for your year with the humans. I hear high school is described as purgatory in the human world.” I smiled at that. “Well that shouldn’t be a problem right? Seeing as I’m half demon, I’ll be right at home.”

I smirked at the stupefied expression on Liam’s face at my open declaration of being a half demon. Grow up! I wanted to yell at him. It’s not something to hide or be embarrassed about, it’s a part of who I am, whom I will always be.

With that the meeting was adjourned.

Chapter three

“And this” my mother announced with a dramatic sweep of her hands, “is your room.” I gasped. “It’s… it’s humungous!” I squealed. My mother nodded enthusiastically in agreement. She looked like she had just, single- handedly, accomplished world peace. I grinned.

The room before me was quite average sized but compared to my previous room it was a palace. Previously I lived in a room the size of a broom-cupboard. All of us angels who have not yet joined human society or are with young ones live in a huge establishment that appears to be an orphanage to humans. Liam is like the director/ angel coordinator there. I do have a sneaking suspicion that my ex room was actually an ex broom cupboard specifically renovated to accommodate Liam’s favorite charge. (Note the sarcasm)

“Well go unpack now, you’ll be attending school from Monday.” I sighed that’s day after tomorrow. Instead of unpacking I explored the kitchen. I went through the pantry. Ahhh… Home sweet home.

I needed something that contained a lot of calories so that it would keep my obnoxious demanding stomach quiet for at least two- three hours. I quickly grabbed three jumbo-sized packets of crisps, six pack sodas and a bag of scrumptious whole chocolate cookies.

I chewed while I thought. I moaned. Much, much better.

The council of angels had rented a small apartment for mother, that could also accommodate me, for her assignment. I sighed. Mother wouldn’t tell me what her assignment was about even though I asked her a hundred times in the car and I’m not using some hyperbole here.

“Mother I’m hungry! So what’s your assignment?” No reply

“The window won’t roll down; what’s your assignment?” No reply

“…then in my dream Katherine toppled down the stairs and hit Liam and they both fell out of the window into this huge shredder. What’s your assignment? Then Liam grew another head but that just increased his pig-headedness and…” Reply: “Arabella! You cannot speak of such violence!”
