KINN'S POV:-

something was wrong. I felt it deep in my bones as I pulled into my driveway, my sixth sense blaring
Bible stared straight ahead, his face place, his eyes unseeing. He had been like this since the morning. When his father found him by the lake and he screamed so loud he woke me up from one of my rare bouts of sleep..I raced outside, my mind conjuring all type of horrible scenarios while I cursed myself for leaving him alone, for failing him
But I found him outside..safe and unharmed.. atleast physically..while his father tried to soothe him.
I guided him into my house where I tucked him beneath a blanket on the couch and made him a hot drink..I'd turn off the heat since I went away for like a week and until it caught up..it was freezing
"Hot chocolate with oat milk and marshmallows" I kept my tone light as I handed bible the drink "just like you like it"
"Thank you na" he wrapped his hands around the mug.
I grasped his chin and angled his face towards mine
"Tell me who or what I need to kill? What happened at your dad's house?"
"I told you..it's nothing..it was just..just the lake" bible leaked out a small smile
"And you can't kill the lake"
"I'll fucking drain Every lake and ocean in the world if I have to"
A tiny crystal tear slipped from his eyes "kinn..."
"I mean it, sunshine"
I rubbed the tear away with my thumb as my heart raged in my chest, a snarling beast furious at the sight of his distress and the thought there was something in the world that would dare hurt him
"I'd do it for you" I said as I kissed his forehead
"I'd do anything...no matter how impossible or twisted"
"I-" he gulped "kinn..m-my childhood memories..they came back"
The confession hit me like a train, blindsiding me of all the things I'd expect him to say..this hasn't been one of then
"Sunshine, what do you remember?"
I kept my voice calm and even
"I don't remember anything..but..the day that I almost..died"
My entire body flushed hot. Almost died. If he had died the  he was no longer somewhere in the world

"I was playing by the lake...there used to be a dock that ran out to the middle of the water. My dad took it down after the Incident.. that's what I call what happened..but I used to go there all the time until my parents divorced..my dad moved out..and my mom fell into a depression. It was a really nasty divorce, from what I glanced over the years and now I remember all the shouting and threats. I was too young to understand what they were mad about. All I knew was that they were angry...so angry that sometimes I thought they would kill each other...my mom stopped taking me out to the lake until one day..she did. We were playing on the dock and we ran out of sunscreen...she went inside to grab a tube of itm.and I didn't wanted to stop playing so I didn't went with her..she made me promise to stay put while she ran inside..she was supposed to be only gone for few minutes..."

Bible traced the rim of the mug with his fingers..his eyes gaining that far off quality that told me he was lost in his memories..

"I did..stay put, watched the fishes and threw stones in the water...I waited for her to come back so we could play again...I don't remember everything exactly..I just remembered her leaving...and I remembered her returning and falling into the water only..." He drew in a deep breath
"I don't think she returned...even though I smelled her perfume..but in my nightmare and my memories...I never got a good look at the face of the person who pushed me..it all happened so quickly...but when I was by the lake..a few days ago..more memories returned..and I realized that I had seen more then I'd thought..before I fell into the water..I saw a flash of gold. A signet ring...
"KW" (the initial of Bible's dad's name)"

Dread and shock coiled at the vase of my spine and flared their wings.. enveloping me in their dark embrace.
"My dad..." Bible shook harder...
"Kinn..my mom didn't tried to kill me...my..my dad did.."
