Chapter 14: Meta Knight Part II

Meta Knight had been in these cold, almost frozen woods for an entire day. He had managed to find some shelter in the form of a hollowed out tree that was just big enough for him to reside in, but he knew he couldn't stay there.

He had to keep pressing onwards.

In the morning, Meta Knight left his little shelter and- after stretching out his body- looked up at the morning sky.

The sky was still gray and stormy, with signs of a possible blizzard still being ominent.

(Gotta get somewhere safe before that happens.) Meta Knight calculated (Shouldn't be hard. After all, I've made it through worse weather.)

Due to being here for a full day, Meta Knight had deduced that he was indeed on some kind of snowy mountain, as the further he traversed, the less thin the air became. While traversing, he managed to find some berries that were strong enough to withstand the cold temperatures and ate them- while also picking a few to save for later. They weren't a full meal, but they would still suffice, plus food wasn't something Meta Knight was too concerned about.

Now he was just trying to keep going, keep traversing down this rough and cold terrain. It would probably be easier for him to fly, but the cold air would start to freeze up his wings, preventing him from flying for too long. Every time he tried to fly a bit, his wings would start to freeze up after a few minutes and he had to stop.

The worst part was that due to all the snow, Meta Knight would leave footprints whenever he traversed the ground. He tried to cover them up the best he could, and luckily some of the snowfall would cover the tracks back up, but it still made Meta Knight feel uneasy.

Like something could easily track him down, and follow him...

Regardless of these setbacks and difficulties, Meta Knight knew he couldn't give up.

After traveling for the entirety of the morning, Meta Knight reached a part of the forest where he picked up the scent of something.

Was it... ash?

Cautiously heading over to where he was smelling this, he soon came upon a small clearing that had the remains of a campfire. Meta Knight studied the burnt ash from the campfire remains, it was a few days old.

Seeing it gave Meta Knight some needed reassurance, even though it was an old campfire, it still meant that someone else was out here.

The only part he was uncertain about was if that someone would be a friend or foe.

Suddenly, Meta Knight heard his stomach grumble. He paused for a moment, debating on what to do.

"Hmm, the wood in that campfire still looks burnable, I could mash the berries I had together and use the campfire to make a stew. And the fire could warm up my wings to help me fly a bit longer. But that will take up some time, and I need all the time I can get to keep traveling down this mountain before a blizzard. Plus the fire could attract undesired visitors..."

Coming to a conclusion, Meta Knight shook his head. "Can't do it, too risky."

Still, Meta Knight felt he should still stop to eat. Taking out the berries he found, he carefully lifted up his mask a very tiny bit so his face wouldn't show, but still be able to put the berries into his mouth to eat them.

After eating at least two berries, Meta Knight put the rest away and adjusted his mask so it was on his face properly.

That was when Meta Knight heard something, some kind of rustling noise coming from the bushes ahead.
