Chapter 23: Meta Knight Part III

Two days had passed since Meta Knight first landed on this mysterious snowy mountain, he had been able to get some good distance flying down it, but it wasn't long before he had to take shelter due to the oncoming blizzard. After some searching he had found a safe haven in the form of a small and seemingly empty cave, yet while it did shield him from the cold, it wasn't exactly the coziest place to stay in. Worst of all he didn't have time before the blizzard had started to gather some firewood, and had to wrap his wings around himself to keep himself warm.

Meta Knight wasn't too bothered by this, as he didn't mind being in discomfort as long as he remained strong. Plus, he was patient enough to remain still within the cave, as he waited out the blizzard.

Only drawback- aside from the cold- was the fact he had run out of berries, and was now starting to grow increasingly hungry, and the intense blizzard was preventing him from searching for food.

He stood still watching the blizzard happening outside for a few hours, intent on remaining awake just in case something out there decided to ambush him, but despite these efforts, he grew increasingly drowsy overtime. Soon, his eyelids slowly fell, only to snap back open upon hearing a loud sound.

"Was that... the wind howling?" he asked himself. "Or was it..."

Meta Knight took a defensive position just in case the sound was something approaching. After a few minutes, nothing happened.

Hours passed and his eyelids started to grow heavy again, eventually closing completely as he fell asleep. When he woke up, time had passed and there was no longer an intense blizzard outside.

Seeing this, Meta Knight shook himself awake, and cautiously walked out of the cave to survey the area. Looking up in the sky, Meta Knight could see that the storm had not fully passed, for there were still plenty of dark clouds in the sky, therefore it was likely the blizzard would start up again soon. Still, it was enough of a break for him to try and make some progress traversing down the mountain, or at the very least find some food.

The break from the snowfall allowed him to spread his wings and fly out, flying just above the snow covered forest as he looked down into the trees beneath him. As he flew, he caught sight of the trees within the forest. Several of them looked mostly normal, yet there was a noticeable amount of trees that had severe claw marks on them. The claw marks were very large, and looked pretty recent.

Meta Knight could tell lingering around here would be a bad idea.

Thus, he kept flying high above the forest, as he did so, he spotted some potential food down below in the form of some kind of sprouts. Initially, they didn't seem worth checking out, but the desperate rumbling in his stomach made him give in and decide to get a closer look. Flying down, Meta Knight landed right in front of the sprouts he had seen, and upon further inspection, they looked to be some kind of leek.

Not the tastiest food, but it would do for now. Thus with great care- and some assistance via his sword- Meta Knight harvested the leeks. Once he had pulled the three of them out however, the sound of a twig or a branch snapping in two alerted him, causing him to drop the leeks. The sound of what was seemingly the wind howling could be heard around him.

Bringing out his sword from its scabbard, he glanced around to try and see if anything was approaching him, getting ready just in case it was another monster creature that felt like trying to attack him. While it was pretty likely it was just some wildlife passing through and not paying him any mind, he didn't want to take any chances. That, or it could be whatever had given the trees those intense claw marks.
