There was a healing period, and then Peter was yelled at by many people. I chuckled each time because it would end with them praising and thanking me.
We didn't leave each other's side at this point. I don't think either of us wanted to be alone, but we hadn't yet picked up where we had left off in terms of the heat. It was just friendship for a moment until Peter planned a date.
Like our first date, I met him by his car, but this time, Cassie was there to see us off, and we weren't hindered by secrets or time,
He was almost shy about handing me the roses, but his smile returned when I kissed the side of his mouth in thanks. There were no more nerves for me.
"Are you ready to see my favourite place?" He asked.
It was early fall, and it was just getting crispy outside. I still wore a sundress but paired it with a flannel. So American, I had thought when Pepper had given me the flannel in a pile of new fall clothes.
I nodded. I was ready for wherever Peter was going to take us.
When we arrived at the farm forty-five minutes later, I was shocked at the land's beauty. Yellows, oranges, and reds had just started to grace the leaves of the trees, and the rolling hills were full of crops.
He pulled up next to a house, and we stepped out of the car as a man in his mid-forties exited the house, followed by a woman with her hair tied back. "Hey, Pete," the man greeted.
"Hi, Clint! Hi Laura! Great to see you; I wanted to introduce you to my girlfriend, Katya." I blushed at the title, but when Peter had asked me to be his girlfriend our first night back, I couldn't help but say yes, even if I wasn't sure what that would entail.
"It is great to meet you, Katya," Clint said while moving around the car to shake my hand. His grip was firm but gentle. "I heard you saved this boy's life." I nodded, smiling shyly.
"You're welcome here anytime. This is the retirement home of heroes, anyhow." He said, releasing my hand and motioning to the farmland behind him.
Laura laughed loudly, "You keep telling yourself that Clint."
"You used to work with Peter?" I asked.
"We both did," shared Laura. "But it was time for a new adventure. So we retired. Got this beautiful place."
"You can do that?"
They both laughed, "Of course you can. It's just a job, Katya."

We enjoyed a beautiful lunch with Laura and Clint, and they showed me pictures of their three kids, who were visiting grandparents for the day. Then Peter and I tossed a ball around with their dog, Ranger.
On the drive home, I couldn't stop smiling and talking about everything I saw.
"I'm glad you liked it," Peter was grinning from ear to ear.
"One day, I want a farm?"
"Not now?" Peter asked. I guess he was still under the impression I wanted that dream now.
"Well, I had been thinking. Maybe not yet. I want to take care of a farm well. And there is still so much to see. Plus, I was thinking of some ways I could help."
"You don't have to help, Katya. You've already done so much."
"But I want to help!" I insisted. "Nobody seems good at tracking, you know, underground computer stuff. I have always had a knack for it. And maybe if I took some classes, I could get better. I mean, I don't think I ever want to fight again, but this could be a way I could be useful, and maybe I could stay."
