I wake up in fear. Konig's arm is wrapped around my waist. His chest is against my back. I look behind me and realize he's still sleep. Fuck. I hate nightmares. I try to get up but his arm is heavy and feels like dead weight. I sigh and lay back down, trying to get comfortable. I haven't told anyone about my past. And I never will. If I ever chose to tell someone, I would have to either kill them or marry them. Yes I know that's extreme, but it's the truth. I close my eyes and calm myself, trying to go back to sleep. My mind keeps wandering to the incident. Fuck.

FLASHBACK

"Adam?" I called as I entered the apartment. No answer. It was eerily quiet. I tip toed through the apartment, staying as quiet as possible, listening for any movements or noise. Nothing. Absolutely silent. "Adam, it's Star." Still nothing.

I searched the whole apartment, saving his office for last. I wasn't allowed in here. That was the one rule. The door was always shut and locked. I'd never even seen what's behind those doors. But I noticed it was open and unlocked. Fuck. "Adam?" I ask quietly, slowly pushing the door open.

I slowly step down into the room. It was a basic office. Think of those old home offices with the brown and black and a bunch of leather. Those manly offices. Yeah, that's the one.

The office was empty but something was off. I looked around the room and noticed that one of the bookshelves looked uneven from the rest. I walked up to it. All the other bookcases were an inch or two out more. The single bookcase was in more. I gently pushed on it and heard gears turn. The single bookcase moved and revealed a secret passageway. It wasn't impossible to have one because the building is old and we live on the first floor. Everything in my gut was telling me to run. To hide and call the police, but I chose to ignore it.

I walked into the old stone passageway. It curved a bunch before it lead to a staircase. I slowly worked my way down the dark stone staircase. As I neared the bottom, I saw a faint light, almost like a candle light. It was dim. I followed the light and stayed quiet.

When I reached the room where the light was, I saw Adam and someone else with him. A strange man that I've never seen before. The room they were in was made of stone and lined with tall bookcases. The books on them looked old and antique. Actually, everything looked antique. There was a stone alter and a few old wooden benches. Behind the alter, was a mural of what looked like a demon.

Adam and the strange man stood by the alter, their backs turned to me. I stayed in the shadows and kept quiet, listening to them.

"We are almost ready." Adam said to the strange man.

"Good." The strange man said. He was wearing a blood red silk robe. He was tall and skinny like a twig. He looked dead. His skin was pale. His eyes were sunken in. He was bald too. "When should we expect her?"

"Tomorrow." Adam said. "I've already made the preparations. I'll put a sedative in her coffee tomorrow morning. Once she's asleep, I'll carry her down here and we can continue the ritual."

"Your sacrifice will be appreciated by him." The strange man said. My gut kept telling me to run but I was frozen in place.

END OF FLASHBACK

Apparently I whimpered because Konig whispered in my ear. "What's wrong mein liebling?" He whispers. I shake my head.

"Nothing." I lie, wiping the tears off my cheeks. He turns me towards him.

"Don't lie to me." He says and wipes a tear off my cheek. "What's wrong?"

"I had a nightmare." I say. He pulls me to his chest.

"About?" He asks quietly. Don't tell him. Don't let him in. He'll leave just like the rest. I shake my head and start to sob. "Mein liebling?" He holds me tighter, trying to comfort me.

FLASHBACK

"Thank you sir." Adam said. "I hope to make him happy. It's my life mission."

"He will be very proud and happy of you." The strange man said. I stepped back, my foot hitting a rock. The rock rolled and hit the wall behind me, causing a small noise. Both Adam and the strange man looked in my direction. I gasped and ran. I ran as fast as I could up the stairs and down the stone hall. I heard a pair of footsteps behind me, running after me. By the time I made it to the office, they caught up with me and tackled me to the ground. I screamed and cried and kicked, fighting for my life.

"Goddamn it Star!" Adam hissed when I kicked his arm hard. "Fucking bitch stop!" He finally managed to grab ahold of my arms and restrain me.

"Get off!" I sobbed. "Let me go!"

"Will you shut up for one fucking second?!" He said angrily and slapped me across the face.

"I won't tell anyone." I sobbed. "I promise. I'm sorry." I felt a sharp sting on my forehead before I passed out.

When I had woken up, I was tied to a stone slab. It was lifted up and was big enough to fit a grown man laying down. A rag was in my mouth to keep me from screaming. I sobbed as I struggled to get free.

"You won't be able to escape." The strange man from earlier said. I sobbed and looked at him. "Looks like you are going to die sooner than expected." I tried to scream and fought even harder against my tied wrists. My wrists started to bleed from the rope digging into my skin. "Fight all you want. You'll be dead by tonight anyways." With that, he left me alone in the strange room.

It felt like the more I fought, the tighter the restraints became. I fought for hours. I screamed until my throat was raw. I sobbed until I almost threw up and I couldn't sob anymore. I gave up. I thought I was going to die that night.

When the ceremony started, I heard music and singing coming from another room. Someone came in and looked like they snuck in here. I watched her quietly.

"You need to be quiet." The girl said. She looked to be only ten or eleven. "I'm going to save you but you need to do what I say." I nodded. She cut the rope off my and took the rag out of my mouth. "Follow me and be quiet." I got up and did what she said. She led me down a few passageways and up a set of stone stairs, different from the ones I had originally found. "Here." She opened the door to a bedroom. It was a different apartment. "Run. Run for your life and never come back. Leave your stuff. Get as far as you can from here." I nodded and looked at her.

"Thank you." I choked. She nodded.

"Go." She said. "Now. You don't have much time." I did as she said and ran. I never looked back again.

END OF FLASHBACK

"Mein liebling?" Konig says again and gently shakes me. I breathe out, trying to calm myself down.

"I'm fine." I mutter a few times.

"Tell me what happened." He says.

"I can't." I say and sniffle, shaking my head. "I'll be okay. I just need to go back to sleep." He sighs but doesn't argue. He just holds me as I fall back to sleep.
