Chapter 24 ~ From the Shadows

Erik's POV
I carefully watched Ryleigh and Christine through one of my secret passageways, trying to control my anger. I was about to go in there and kill Christine for coming anywhere near my Angel, but froze when they started talking about me. I sighed when Ryleigh said that violence is never the answer; I knew she was right, I had the worst temper. I had had enough when Christine slapped Ryleigh across the cheek and stormed out of the room. As soon as I was sure she was gone, I came out from my hiding place and ran over to my Angel.

"E-Erik, were you w-watching that? I-I'm so s-sorry" Ryleigh said, choking back tears.

"Shh, darling, it's fine. I won't let her hurt you" I soothed her, sitting next to her on the bed and letting her curl up in my arms. She rested her forehead on my chest and sighed, tears falling freely from her eyes.

"B-but what if she hurts y-you?! I can't l-live without you, Angel!" She said, a worried tone in her voice.

"Ryleigh, I will be fine, I promise. Just close your eyes, let all your worries melt away" I spoke softly, trying to cast a spell over her with my voice so that she wouldn't be worried.

"Okay" she said softly, her eyes slowly closing as her trance deepened. I knew that she was asleep when her breathing evened, her chest slowly rising and falling.

"Sleep well, my Angel" I sang softly into her ear as I stroked her beautiful curls. She truly was an Angel, by far the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. I sighed in contentment as I rested my head on top of hers, slowly closing my eyes as well. One thing I loved about Ryleigh was that she was always right, whether you thought she was or not. I could use some rest, even though I had denied it. I slowly picked her up and gently placed her under the blankets of her bed. I smiled down at her sleeping form as I gently kissed her forehead and headed back down to my lair.
