7) Light

To Jaehyun last night felt like a fever dream, a figment of his imagination. In his mind, there was no way in hell that he would get his heart broken by his best friend only to be kissed by him an hour later. It seemed absurd.

But reality quickly hit him once the morning sun slowly seeped through the curtains and their 7:00 alarm went off. As Jaehyun's eyes fluttered open, he was woken up to a sleeping Woonhak. The same naive Woonhak that he kissed last night.

The events of last night replayed in Jaehyun's head as his eyes were still locked on the younger. 'how could I have kissed Woonhak?' he thought to himself in frustration and disbelief. 'he's straight and literally likes Eunchae and that's not his fault, it's my fault. I'm the one that took advantage of him, I mean what was I thinking offering him a practice kiss? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.'

"Jaehyun?" A groggy Woonhak suddenly saved the older from his never-ending spiral of a brain.

"Oh, um good morning." Jaehyun coughed as he quickly sat up, not expecting Woonhak to be awake beside him.

Woonhak adjusted himself after Jaehyun's sudden movement since they had been slightly intertwined, per usual. "Are you ok? I said your name like three times and you just kept staring at me like a serial killer." The younger asked with a slight chuckle.

"I'm fine, I'm just still a little asleep." Jaehyun excused Woonhak's concerns as he shook his head with a smile.

"Oh ok..." The younger smiled back, just as warm and endearing as always. "Hey um, thank you for last night, again. I was really stressed for no reason and you made me feel a lot better." Woonhak tried to show his gratitude but silence quickly took over their conversation, leaving him with no proper answer in return.

The reality sunk in once again for Jaehyun after realizing just how oblivious Woonhak was to the situation. Something that meant everything to Jaehyun, their first kiss, was just a mere favour to the younger and nothing else. "Um... I'm gonna go in the shower first if you don't mind." He blurted out awkwardly as he stood up and quickly walked away.

"What?! Jaehyun!~ I swear to god, if you take a thousand years in there it will be the last shower you ever have." Woonhak shouted while stumbling out of bed after him.

After the boys spent a slightly awkward morning with each other while getting ready it was finally time to catch the bus. Once the bus pulled up, they walked in and sat further in the back where there were rows of two-seaters.

Jaehyun hadn't said much all morning which was definitely unlike his usual self. When he sat down he immediately looked out the window, paying no attention to the person beside him, almost like he was trying to avoid the situation altogether.

But his coldness didn't go unnoticed by the younger. Woonhak might not be the best at reading people but he could tell that Jaehyun was quieter than normal and that was enough to catch his attention. "Jaehyun~" He whispered teasingly into the elder's ear in hopes of a reaction.

As Woonhak's warm breath hovered over Jaehyun's ear it lifted shivers down his spine which made him wince. "Ha, Woonhak~"

Woonhak immediately giggled at the elder's dramatic response before he pulled his headphones out of his bag and offered one of the buds. "Do you want to listen to music with me?"

Jaehyun paused for a second to process as his ears were still bright red. "Uh... Sure." He hesitantly agreed, figuring it was better than silence.

Without another word, Woonhak leaned over and placed one of the buds in Jaehyun's far ear. The younger's warm fingertips brushed against his elder's cold skin as their faces grew closer, making Jaehyun's mind run wild. Woonhak paused for a moment, realizing how close they were and he then quickly leaned back into his seat.

"Um, is wave to earth good with you?" Woonhak asked nervously without even knowing why.

"Yeah, that's fine," Jaehyun answered shyly as he was still recovering from their shared moment before he moved his gaze back toward the window.

Woonhak then pressed play and they both immediately got engulfed by the calming melody of light by wave to earth. As Jaehyun was finally able to just breathe and listen to their songs, the younger couldn't help but stare.

Jaehyun just looked so much more peaceful and his perfect side profile was being beautifully lit by the sun shining behind him. Woonhak tried his best to analyze the elder's mood but all he found himself doing was staring at his beauty. His doe eyes, long lashes, straight nose and plump lips, all caught the eye of the younger. The certain face he dawned while staring out into the scenery was quite alluring, though Woonhak didn't know why he was staring, he still couldn't help but watch attentively as if Jaehyun was a beautiful piece of art glistening in the fluorescent lights of a showroom.

Woonhak was carried away by the masterpiece in front of him until a small buzz in his pocket quickly woke him up from his trance.

Can we meet up for lunch?
I need to talk to you

The text left Woonhak feeling conflicted. He knew that if he met Eunchae during lunch, that would mean leaving Jaehyun alone. Woonhak and Jaehyun spend lunch together every day and although it seems so simple, it kind of meant something to them. He quickly looked back and forth between his phone and Jaehyun as if he could get some sort of telepathic reassurance but of course he didn't.

He then tried to shrug it off as best as he could. 'It's not a big deal, right? It's just one lunch, it's not the end of the world, Jaehyun will survive. And why am I even worried, it's just 1 hour. Ok enough thinking, I'm going to go!... Oh my god it's not the Olympics I don't need to cheer myself on, it's just lunch and a talk, I guess.' He hyped himself up in his mind since he clearly needed it before answering.
