"So, how was school, Savi?" Sophie asked when Savi leapt home.

"Perfectly fine," Savi replied tightly as she started up the staircase. No way was she telling anyone about Cerulean who was the weirdest person she'd ever met. Or that Via and Harmony were kind of ignoring her. "Everything's good."

"Well, Edaline came over."

Savi groaned. "Okay, you got me. Pleeeeaaassseeeee tell me there's mallowmelt."

"There isn't if you keep sulking."

Savi forced the brightest smile she could onto her face. "GRANDMA, I'M COMING FOR YOU!" she yelled as she charged to the kitchen.

Edaline was already there with Seri and Savi's bright smile slowly faded off her face. There was a tray on the table. But all that was left were crumbs.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Savi! But Seri ate everything," Edaline said.

"Oh. That's great. Thanks for coming. Bye." Savi turned away.

"PRANK!" Seri yelled from behind her.

Savi rolled her eyes and turned back around. Seri had apparently been sitting on another tray of goodies. There wasn't any mallowmelt left. But there were some butter blasts.

"I CALL DIBS!" Savi shouted and wrenched the tray out of Seri's grasp.

"Hey, not so rough!" Edaline warned them. "Or I'm telling your mother!"

Both Savi and Seri fell ghostly quiet. "Do not tell Mom," they both said in unison.

Edaline laughed. "You two are too cute."

"Not cute!" Savi snapped. "Anyway, these are mine..." She gleefully ran off with the tray.

Back in her room, Savi's smile was gone and she munched on the butter blasts dejectedly. So, first day of school had been a big flop. She made a friend, lost two friends. Good progress?

She'd gotten a couple of mentors. Lady Gavin for alchemy. She remembered Sophie telling her about the old days when she took alchemy with Lady Gavin, and Lady Gavin already didn't like Savi once she heard who her mother was. Savi didn't really like the prejudice, but she supposed she could put up with it.

And when they'd assigned the official seating plan, she was sitting between Cerulean and Harmony. Which was going to be bad because she couldn't even be a proper friend to Cerulean with Harmony around. But she'd suffer it. She always did.

"Savi. Come down for dinner."

"Still eating butter blasts, Mom. I think I'll kip on dinner."

"Savi."

But Savi continued eating butter blasts in her room full of gloom.

Finally, she caught someone hailing her. It was Via. Her finger hovered over the Imparter screen and she almost pressed 'receive' before stopping.

Did she really want to talk to Via right now?

So, she denied the call and sent Via a message: Not right now.

Via's reply was incredibly quick: Why, what's going on?

I just need to be alone, Savi sent.

Something going on back home? Via was annoyingly curious.

No, I'm fine. Go hang out with Harmony. Savi shoved her Imparter aside. Maybe she should go talk to somebody. But no. She couldn't think of anyone but Cerulean. But she eventually gave in to the temptation. She didn't know why she was hailing the guy she'd just met six hours ago, but... it wasn't like she had anybody else.
