When we reach the cafeteria ,there we found Zoe, she waves at us we go her way.
" OMG sis you made it !"
I gave her a hug
" hey I missed you too !"
we share a moment but mom cuts. Us off.
" girls I will go to the bathroom"
" do you want help mom? "
I asked
"no baby I can do it"
she then walks towards the toilets, taking slow steady steps ,as we watch from the distance. me and Zoe sit in the table she offers me some food ,I take it, I can't say it was tasty but I haven't eaten an actual meal in days
" so !what's up with Rey?" I asked her she takes her head laughing a bit.
" so you met him?"
she looks surprised
"Yeah he was in mom's room when I came"
I clarify
"he's a good guy" I take a sip of water

she continues I choked hard on my
water, everyone looking at me, i take another sip of water and let the glass on the table.
" what do you mean ?"
"he and mom ,they are together "
she says like it is the most normal thing ever "since when?"
" oh they said they knew each other from before and when he heard that she was coming he took the first flight to meet her again"
I stand there dumbfounded
"is it serious ?"
I asked not knowing what to expect I don't know how to feel about this.
mom slowly finds her way back we sit in silence and we eat this horrible hospital food. I wish I could fight for this family more than I do. I have to think smart.
" so..." I look down at my food
"Uh... I searched up the surgery you're doing"
I play with my fork
"it says it's about 190,000 USD " there is silence
"I thought maybe I could sell the house but it still wouldn't be enough and-"
my mom grabs my hand, i stop and look at her.She shakes her head like she doesn't want to talk about it, i nod and so we just continue to eat.

The doctor calls me into his office, thinking he wants to talk about the date of the surgery.
I talked to the doctor with the English that I can, thank God I paid attention at school
" so doctor when can my mom do her surgery?"
I asked optimistically with eyes light up and a genuine smile the doctor looks at me stressed and that makes me worried
"it came to our attention that you won't be able to afford the surgery..."
my ears go numb I can't pay attention to what he's saying, my smile drops and it forms into a sad grimace ,I can't control my muscles it seems.
The door knocks, the doctor stops talking, he looks at me then over at the door.
Then i hear the door open, who is it?
I don't turn, suddenly i hear a somewhat familiar voice.
"I hope i wasn't late"
The man comes to sit next to me, i look to my side and to my surprise,
It was... Rey .

Moms pov
*On the phone*
I hide in the toilet, take my phone out ,is this a bad idea?
"Rey !hey !"
"Im sorry you left like that, we haven't finished our conversation yet"
"Look you know i would never ask something if actually didn't really need it"
"I can't afford the surgery"

"Yeah i know, i know im sorry"

"No, look i will pay you back of course"

The doctor leaves the room to talk to a nurse
I look over at Rey with suspicion
"why are you doing this?"
he looks at me
"you're welcome "
"what?"
I ask
"oh sorry I thought you said thank you"
He says with audacity.
"this is no time for jokes REY"

"And i will pay you back"
I say as i cross my arms, i don't want to have depts , i will take care of it, i will find a way.
