I shift uneasily, smoothing the fabric of my new dress. An a line thing that cost too much and was a little too loose.

This was a monumentally bad idea, wasn't it? To be with her in such darkness, in a room so cold and so quiet one could hear other people breathing.

It wasn't supposed to be just the two of us here. There were supposed to be other people- our so called friends. But in true Alpha Nu fashion, those sorority girls can't ever be trusted to keep their words.

It was awkward to say the least being pressed up against Winifred in this booth. Mostly because it wasn't supposed to be awkward at all.
We were supposed to be best friends. Friendship forged since high school. But here we were, in our 20s and suddenly running out of things to say. Not that we could say much in this godforsaken bar.

Whose idea was it to come here anyway?
To this gimmicky speakeasy where you couldn't really speak. You heard that right.
You can't really speak.

They called it The Blind. I am sure you've seen it all over social media. A pitch black, pin drop silent bar bar ran by the best bartenders. They go to your booths and you don't give them the name of the cocktail you want. You write down what you want to feel. Because again you can't really talk.

And so for the last two times anyone has stopped in our booth, we have only shown one word to the poor bartenders itching to showoff their creativity: DRUNK.

I was half tempted to just demand them to leave a bottle tequila with us. Who needs it mixed with anything else?

Very soft atmospheric music fills the grating silence. I stare at my drink not daring to look anywhere else.

A soft sigh escapes the woman beside me. Then a slightly louder thud.

I look.

And there she was - pink lips slightly parted, bunny teeth on display. Her milky white skin and its red splotches almost luminous in the dark.
