Connie held back a giggle when Steven crashed into her, the bulldozer of a teen he was, with a hug. "Connie!"

"I missed you!" She squished his cheeks together and he blushed.

"I missed you too." He softened a bit but then squinted. "Hm."

Connie waved to the Gems and Greg standing behind Steven. "Thanks for coming to pick me up!"

"No problem! Anything for my son's best friend." Greg winked at her and she flushed, returning her focus to Steven.

"Hm."

Suddenly she was feeling very self conscious at those critical eyes. "What? Is something wrong?"

"I don't know." He tipped his head and took two steps back. "There's something different about you that I can't put my finger on."

Greg's eyebrows raised and he started to say something but Garnet pressed a hand over his mouth. "Trust me, you don't wanna see the future where Steven finds all this out too late."

"You're taller? You're shorter?" The poor oblivious teen was genuinely confused. What was so different about his Connie? "Maybe you trimmed your hair? No that's not it. Maybe–,"

Connie Mahaswaren, 16 years old and tired of the dance of adolescence. "I have tiddies, Steven."

Gregory Universe, 43 and about to have a stroke. "Oh boy."

Steven Universe, 17 and completely mortified. "Oh." He rubbed the back of his neck and the next thing out of his mouth was, "Right on."

The collective disappointment from all parties that his fathers rockstar slang had slipped at the perfectly worst time was positively smothering.

"Welp! I'm bored!" Amethyst took off toward the van and hollered, "You dweebs get the backseat!"

And then they'd had to sit in the backseat of the car, inches from each other and pretend not to feel awkward until Connie accidentally nudged his foot and started a war.
