Homecoming
Season 7 x 01

it was a long day of trauma and new med students. the clock hit midnight and i was off, gladly.
"god, the janitorial staff needs to come back" i groaned, tossing bloodied gauze in the trash.
"we're in the works of it" mark said
"i still don't know why the hell romano of all people is in charge"
"tell me about it" he smiled
"dr. greene, we have a multi trauma coming in" haleh shouted
"how long?"
"five minutes"
"want me to stay for awhile?"
he waved his hand in the air "no, go home"
"have fun" i smiled, walking the opposite direction as him.
i began walking toward the front doors.
"wait, gianna" peter yelled
i turned around.
"can you pick up john carter from the airport?"
"sure" i nodded, reluctantly.
"o'hare?"
"yeah, yeah, terminal three" he added
he threw me the keys to his car
"thank you" he shouted
"no problem" i shrugged

soon after, i arrived at the airport.
i had no idea where john carter would be, though. i stood around terminal three for twenty minutes, now, i landed myself at baggage claim.
"are you john carter?" i asked a man
he shot me a funny look "no"
"sorry sir," i smiled
i couldn't remember what he looked like. i knew about a dr. john carter i just couldn't put a face to a name. i mean god, i could hardly remember what i wore yesterday.
but a man stood alone with a suitcase, he was looking around. i thought he could've been familiar looking but then again, i didn't know for sure if that was him.
"excuse me?" i asked
"are you john carter by any chance?"
"that would be me" he nodded, confused
"thank god" i panted
"i've been all over looking for you"
i straightened my posture.
"do i know you?"
he titled his head
"i'm gianna coletti"
then, i shook my head
"i work at county"
"i was gonna say you look familiar"
"ICU?" he asked, pointing his finger at me.
"i was a float nurse but now i'm the nurse manager down in the ER"
i began walking and he followed.
"anyways, there was a multi-trauma that came in and peter was pretty busy"
"you know, now that i see you, i vaguely remember you as a med student"
i held open the door for him, leading him outside to benton's car.
"really?"
"after nursing school i worked in the ER"
i unlocked the car door, he threw his bag in the backseat.
"i swore that that's what i wanted to do"
"1995" i smiled
"it feels like so long ago since i was a med student"
"yeah, time flies, i guess"
——
the rest of the car ride was pretty silent.
"you're probably wondering where i came from"
"not really" i shrugged
"i mean, you don't have to tell me anything"
i knew why he was gone. mark told me he was in rehab.
"alright then"
"you're the first person who's actually not nosy"
i shrugged, parking in front of the hospital.
"it's not my business to know about" i smiled
"welcome back" i added
"thanks for the ride"
"it's no problem"
