Sister Circle

Interviewer: Hello! You all look absolutely gorgeous. I want to know, how was it filming The Color Purple: The Adaptation?

The group of women were asked after walking onto the set and taking their seat. Today was one of those days they would have to endure a long day of interviews.

Greeted by the first one for the day, Taraji, Fantasia, and Danielle are all sitting facing the interviewer.

Fantasia: Well it was different. Nothing like the first time I played Celie. This time she had more to say, to feel, and imagine. The experience was not easy, but I had these two lovely ladies there with me every step of the way.

Fantasia places her hand on Taraji's thigh before placing the other on Danielle's. Taraji intertwines their hands as Danielle grabs her arm.

Taraji: I have to say to both of these beautiful women, congratulations on your very first studio film. I am so proud of the both of you. Making this film was unlike anything I have ever done in my life. Singing is something that I have not done in a while and it was never anything that I made known to the public so I was nervous. I mean having to sing with this beautiful woman next to me who is talented! She encouraged me when I was doubted myself.

Fantasia leans into Taraji puckering her lips and Taraji imitates blowing her a kiss. The tension was visible to others in the room and Fantasia's after expression left Danielle puzzled. Fantasia lets out a sigh and looks away, releasing her hand from their hold.

Danielle: I can't continue on with the question without acknowledging how much Taraji has been our advocate behind the scenes. She was selfless. Thank you Taraji. The experience was life-changing. I could not have done this film without these two right here and I'm just grateful to not only be apart of the Broadway musical, but also the film.

The statement caused Taraji to build tears and tilt her head back in an attempt to stop them from falling. Fantasia trying to locate a tissue in the space not being able to  find any uses her finger to catch the tear that escaped the side of her eye.

Taraji: Ughh... Dani. You just had to start it off.

The group continues the day of interviews and are at the end of filming. Intimate moments were exchanged between Fantasia and Taraji with subtle rubs and hand holding throughout the day. With a cleared room Danielle switches her seat to sit directly in front of the two.

I feel like I'm starting to see why I'm not included in this sister circle. She says using her finger to gesture it only being the two of them. The light hearted banter in the room dissipates and they both gaze at each other before looking back to Danielle.

Taraji takes the lead. Dani, you know you're apart of the sister circle. It's just that over the course of the film, Tasia and I have gotten closer, that's all. Taraji smirks playfully shoving Fantasia. Ain't that right. She says gently tapping Fantasia's leg.

Dani, my chocolate sister. You know you in the sister circle. We are sorry. Let's do dinner tonight at a restaurant, together. She mimics Danielle's hand gestures from earlier pointing at all of them with her finger.

My team brings me my phone and I step away from the group expecting it to be my lawyer. 

Fantasia: Hello...
