Suffice to say Christmas of 1991 was when the childhood innocence officially shattered. After that year, Christmas never held that innocent magic it had always used to.

The New Year's Gala at the Malfoy's was much the same. Draco was an absolute stuck up snob and his hair was absolutely ridiculous as he stood with his nose up in the air next to his parents with his wand plainly visible, so everyone knew he was 11 now. Not that he needed it. Everyone knew about Draco because he wouldn't shut up about himself.

I can laugh now, but at the time, my 11-year-old self was quite frustrated. By the end of break, I couldn't wait to get back to Hogwarts with a renewed sense of prejudice against Muggles and Muggle-borns with Roni being the exception.

I figured if I pretended that she was half-blood it would only be half as bad.
