—like flipping through pages in a book, the months passed by in a blur. the cherry blossoms were no longer blooming and was replaced by sunflowers instead for it is the mid of august, also known as the most hot and humid month in japan.
summer was at its summit again for that time of the year.
with an ice-cold water bottle in her hand that was bought by her brother, satoru, sayuri slowly slid the wooden sliding door open to go into her classroom.
as she did, every single one of her classmates threw her looks as if she was someone who's resurrected from the dead.
well, if they were on a game of being the most exaggerated person, then that expression was acceptable, but then again, she hasn't been seen in school for 2 straight weeks after disappearing without a reason.
sayuri didn't know whether they looked at her for being absent for so long or for being the only one who isn't in their summer uniform.
but, her thoughts were long gone when someone chanted her name with intense excitement.
"sayuri!"

"you're sounding like a stalker from that film, y'know?" akio peeked through the textbook he was reading to see yuji itadori sending a hefty amount of messages to the one he constantly kept messaging.
sprawled out like a spider whose body has gone all wobbly, yuji took a moment to stare straight to his phone screen off multiple messages that were being ignored by the one and only sayuri.
an unknown feeling creeping around him has been there for a while ever since he had started to message sayuri. if yuji knew one thing about him, it was that he knew that he was a pretty decent friend. so, maybe that emotion that he was feeling was the uneasiness of being ignored after being used to reciprocate the attention that he always gives to his friends.
still, was it normal for friends to be this nonchalant with the other?
all the white-haired girl's replies were always: "thanks, itadori / okay / i'm fine / can't tell you"
they were good friends and all, at least from yuji's perspective, but he couldn't help but let the hidden greed inside of him ascend and want more from her.
but that felt impossible for yuji knew that sayuri was an unusual person who has had this barrier— rather, some kind of wall that prevents her to be like the other students their age when it came to making friends and socializing.
