dreams were an opposite of the reality.

that's what itadori yuji believed in because that was what his jii-chan used to say to him whenever he had nightmares.

but staring at the blank ceiling—the wood merging into one as he tried his best to bring back his shallow and rapid breathings into normal, in that moment of fright he wondered, what if what i saw was real?

that question acted as a trigger to make all the cells in his body crumple in horror.

"itadori-kun?"

the called boy didn't hear it on the first time but on the second time, he did. yuji had to sit up and lie. he wouldn't want others to know what kind of mortifying nightmare he just had.

"what happened?" nanami kento asks as he turns on the light switch only to have a vivid vision of what state yuji was in—his shirt was damp with sweat, his lips were pale, and his eyes looked like he was petrified by a ghost. "i know something's been happening to you, so please tell the truth." the man made his way towards yuji's bed, inviting himself in.

if it weren't for his dry throat in the middle of the night causing him to fetch a glass of water, he wouldn't have heard yuji tossing and turning in his sleep, mumbling words that sounded like a desperate plea.

"choso was the first to approach me that you've been hiding something from him." the blond continued, offering the glass of water that he got for himself. yuji stares at it for a few seconds before mumbling a thank you to nanami before drinking it. "didn't satoru tell you to not keep anything else from us? also, sayuri wouldn't want this." it was a culpable statement, but it worked. at the mere mention of her name, it made yuji talk.

"it seemed so... real, nanamin."

from the evident pain in his voice, nanami knew that it had something to do with sayuri, because only she can bring out those horrible emotions from yuji. "what seemed real?"

yuji hesitated for a moment. "sayuri was— she was crying out to me." his voice broke at the end of his first sentence. "she just looked so, so tired and she was tearing up, asking me—us to let go of her already because she can't do it anymore." his grip on the glass tightens. "she told me that there's no point on going easy on sukuna because she was already—" yuji couldn't bring to say it for it was not real.

itadori yuji couldn't say that sayuri was already dead because he refused to.

nanami couldn't show his vulnerability for yuji was counting on him. he needed to be composed. he needed to be reliable. he needed to be strong.
