—satoru didn't remember how he got there.

as the cold temperature that december had emitted slowly decreases into something more warm, more tropical, gojo satoru's vision transitioned from seeing the snow to seeing the vast field of summer grass and a single enormous building standing in the middle of it.

initially, he was confused.

just a second ago he was lying down on shinjuku, unable to comprehend what happened and to accept that sukuna had caught him unguarded and proceeded to kill him—until a thought came to him. he wouldn't be there unless he was... gone.

"took you long enough."

and then he saw him.

geto suguru stood near the arrivals gate, leaning casually against a pillar as though he'd been waiting. his face was youthful, untouched by the scars of their past. his long, dark hair tied in a man bun, just like it had in their teenage years, and his familiar smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth. geto suguru, the one that satoru knew—the one that he grew up with, looked at him with the brightest smile on his face. suguru smiled so much that it even reached his eyes.

"yā, satoru." he said with the voice and tone that satoru could recognize everywhere.

satoru blinked, looking down at himself. the haori himo that sayuri made was gone, his black shirt and white loose pants were changed into his old high school uniform, and his reflection in a nearby glass panel startled him. his silver hair was shorter, messier, and his body felt... younger.

he was no longer the untouchable, strongest sorcerer but a teenage boy, standing once again in suguru's presence.

he wanted to run, to tackle suguru in an overwhelming mix of grief and joy, to demand answers for why things had ended the way they had. but something in him rooted him to the spot. something heavier than the afterlife itself.

his little sister.

satoru thought that she was still suffering. still trapped. the battle had been lost, but her fate clung to him like an unrelenting shadow. his chest tightened as guilt coursed through him. he wasn't supposed to be here—not yet. not while she was still out there, still fighting for a life that had already stolen too much from her. satoru's heart weigh heavy as he still wasn't finished fulfilling his wants back in the physical world yet, he wanted to return—he needed to return.

geto suguru knew what was running inside his best friend's head. out of all people, suguru knew satoru best. his facial expression softened as he took a step closer to satoru who became so selfless—forgetting that he had just died when he suddenly remembered his sister. then, with a tone that felt both reassuring and devastating, suguru lets go of the words.
