-Rose's POV-

Johnny and I were born on the same day and our parents loved us very much. When we were five, our dad started to get drunk a lot and smoke so whenever he got angry, he took it out on Johnny and me. Johnny has many scars on his arms and mine are on my back. I have had a total of eight black eyes from my dad and Johnny with ten. It wasn't just our dad, our mom joined in on it too, just mentally. She would always ignore us or would tell us how much people hated us, I would cry for days. Johnny would always comfort me but that could never get the images of my parents beating me up out of my head. Soon, I was too scared to go to sleep. Johnny and I started sleeping out at the lot where it was safer. A fire as our heat source and newspapers as blankets. Our parents didn't even care that we weren't in the house. When I was around the age of forteen, I would hang with some Socs. They didn't really know I was a greaser and that I was Johnny's twin sister, or that I was beaten up daily. They were pretty nice to me, but had no emotions at all. Then I turned fifteen and my dad would make me stay in the house and do all these chores for him. I wasn't allowed to leave at all. Johnny would always go over the Curtis house and hang there. One day, my dad threatened Johnny with a broken arm not to tell anyone of what he was doing to me. Added to the chores, he would beat me up for no reason, just for fun. I have a scar on my collarbone from it being snapped and the scars on my back, those are from being belted. I felt like my head was going to explode, and I just wanted to scream on the top of my lungs. But if I did that, I would get a broken bone in return.

Johnny and I turned sixteen today, and he surprised me with a gift.

"Rose, I have a gift for you." Johnny whispered in my ear. As you can guess, our parents forgot about our birthday years ago.
"Johnny! You didn't have to get me anything. You keep it" I replied.
"Trust me, I don't need the gift this is just for you." He smiled.

I was scared. I've never seen Johnny this happy in this house since we were babies.

"I told the gang about you and they promised not to tell anyone. They're going to get you out and I'm going to help. I can't bare to see you stuck in this place for another day, Rose. It kills me inside." Johnny told me.

I gasped. They were going to get me out? How were they going to do that?

"But what if dad hurts them?" I asked.
"These boys have had it worse."
"Thank you Johnny! This is the best thing that has ever happened to me!" I exclaimed.

"Damn it! You two made me spill my beer. Shut up or I'll break one of your bones again." Dad sneered from the kitchen. I covered my mouth and talked quieter this time.

"How are you going to get me out?"
"We don't know yet, but we promise, we won't fail." Johnny responded.

I heard the door open and slam shut. Mom was home. I closed our door very quietly and Johnny and I both got on our bed.

"Damn you, Mark! All you do is spend all our money up with those beers. I couldn't go gambling today because their was no money left!" Mom shouted and knocked a chair over.
"What the hell! Can't you just not scream for once?" Dad yelled even louder. Then I'm guessing dad slapped mom because there was a loud cracking sound and someone started crying. Dad was never known for crying but mom, she was a drama queen. She would cry over the littlest things. The worst one she cried about was giving birth to Johnny and me. I swear sometimes she's mentally ill but she's not, just really mean.

I turned back to Johnny. The gang barely knows me but is willing to risk their lives to get me out. Johnny would always describe them as tough Greasers who didn't really care about anyone. I smiled at Johnny. He went through all this trouble to save me.
