_-_Andy's POV_-_As we move through the tunnel, the darkness seems to press in around us. I can feel the weight of what we've just witnessed bearing down on me, and I know I'm not alone. Lilith is now up but her eyes are glazed over, and somehow during the panic she injured herself so she's limping badly. Rick and Sperantia are doing their best to support her, but I can tell they're both worried.
"We need to keep moving," Rick whispers, his voice barely audible over the sound of our footsteps. "We don't know how long it'll take him to find us."
I nod, trying to push aside the image of Chris and Eira's bodies. I can't afford to dwell on what's happened – I need to focus on getting out of here alive.
The tunnel stretches on for what feels like hours, twisting and turning through the earth. Finally, we see a glimmer of light up ahead – the exit.
As we emerge into the forest, I take a deep breath of fresh air. It's a welcome respite from the stifling darkness of the tunnel. But our relief is short-lived – we can hear the sound of footsteps echoing through the trees, growing louder by the second.
"He's coming," Sperantia whispers, her eyes wide with fear. "We need to go – now!"
Rick's eyes flash with determination as he raises his newly returned hands. He begins to chant in a low, urgent voice, and the air around us seems to shimmer and respond. A soft, blue glow begins to emanate from his eyes, covering him and spreading outward around us.
As the Darkness rounds the bend in the path, its eyes scan the area, searching for us. But Rick's magic has created a barrier, a veil of protection that makes us invisible to its gaze.
The Darkness pauses, confused, its eyes passing over us as if we're not even there. It snarls, frustrated, and takes a step closer, but Rick's barrier holds strong.
"Keep moving," Rick whispers, his eyes never leaving the Darkness. "We need to put as much distance between us as possible."
I nod, and Sperantia leads the way, her knowledge of the forest guiding us through the dense underbrush. Lilith limps along beside me, her eyes fixed on Sperantia with a mixture of gratitude and wonder.
As we move deeper into the forest, the Darkness's roars grow fainter, and I dare to hope that we've escaped its notice. I know he won't give up easily – we need to find a safe haven, and fast.
As we rest in the cave, Sperantia takes out the satchel Eira, gave us and begins to rummage through it. She pulls out food, water, and medicine, and we take turns eating and drinking. The food is dry and tasteless, but it fills our bellies. The water is cool and refreshing, and the medicine helps to ease our wounds and numb the pain.
"We need to lie low for a while," Sperantia says, her eyes scanning the entrance of the cave. "The Darkness could be patrolling the area, and we can't risk being seen."
I nod in agreement, my body aching from the spin of events that just happened. The others are clearly tired but only Lilith shows it. We settle in, trying to get some rest, but our minds are racing. We know we can't stay here forever, but for now, it's the safest place to be.
As we rest, I can hear Lilith's soft breathing, her body still in immense pain from her injury, and the medicine is not helping very much. Rick is pacing back and forth, his eyes fixed on the entrance of the cave, if he were still a squirrel his ears would be perked up, listening for any sign of danger. But for now it's only his human ears listening for danger. Sperantia is sitting next to Lilith both of their backs against the wall, their eyes closed, their faces pale and drawn.
I try to sleep, but my mind is racing. I keep thinking about Chris and Eira, and the horror we witnessed. I keep thinking about the Darkness, and how we're going to stop it.
As the hours pass, the silence becomes more and more oppressive. All of us are on edge, waiting for something to happen, waiting for the Darkness to find us.
But for now, we're safe. And that's all that matters. I think.
As the hours drag on, the silence in the cave becomes more and more oppressive. We're all exhausted, but our minds are racing, making it hard to relax. But slowly, gradually, our eyelids begin to droop.
Lilith is the first to give in, her injured leg throbbing in pain. She tries to stay awake, but her body betrays her, and she slumps against Sperantia's shoulder, her eyes closing in a slow blink.Sperantia is next, her head nodding forward as she tries to stay alert. But her body is too tired, and her head slowly drops to the top of Lilith's head, her eyes fluttering shut.
Rick is the last to fall, he is still alert, looking and listening for any sign of danger. But even he can't resist the exhaustion, and his head slowly drops, his eyes closing in a slow, sleepy blink.
I'm the only one left awake, my mind still racing with thoughts of the Darkness and our escape. The Darkness terrifies me, I need to find a way to make it less terrifying. Maybe I'll give him a new name, one for me to call him in my mind one that I will never say out loud. Bob. That's it and it takes the scariness away from him.. at least a little bit of it. But even I can't fight it forever, and my eyelids begin to droop, my head nodding forward in a slow, sleepy motion.
As I drift off, I feel a sense of relief washing over me. We're safe, for now. And that's all that matters. The cool night closes in around us, the soft, silent blanket of night envelops us all. And I sleep, my body and mind are finally at rest.. for now.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
I want to sleep. I want to eat something. And I want life to not suck. I guess we can't have anything in life. Because I don't have any of this. No food or sleep or peace for me.
This is fine.
