Why did your friends think Estonia was THE place to be? Why was this the place that was voted for your annual friend trip? You couldn't see it. Maybe you couldn't appreciate it because as soon as you arrived, all of your friends dispersed. None of them were answering their phones because "they don't have international phone plans" or whatever and refused to download WhatsApp. Now, you were in a foreign country, and you were lost.
You were roaming around the city center, or you assumed it was because there were so many people around you. You were trying to read a map, but it was in a different language. You were so busy focusing on the map that you completely missed the body that was walking straight into you.
"Ah, uh," You stumbled back. You didn't know the language people spoke in Estonia, so you went with the only foreign language you knew, "Mi dispiace, mi sono perso (I'm sorry, I'm lost)."
"That's Italian," He chuckled as he reached out to help you steady yourself.
"I'm aware," You sighed as you looked up at the stranger. "I just didn't know what language people in Estonia spoke, so I went with the only foreign language I know."
"Typically, people in Estonia speak Estonian," He joked lightly. He looked at the map you were still holding before narrowing his eyes, "It might be easier to know where you're going when the map is not upside down."
"You're kidding!" You exclaimed, immediately turning the map around the right way. It still didn't make any sense to you. "I'm never gonna find my friends."
"Where were they going? I could help you," He offered.
"They said something about a national park, but I can't remember the name," You explained but you realized how little information you really had. "Maybe they ditched me on purpose."
"If that's the case, you can go off on your own," He suggested. You liked the sound of that. You would rather have to coordinate one or two people for an activity (or just go by yourself) instead of trying to figure it out for all five to ten of your friends. Maybe, it would just be easier and make the vacation more fun for you to go on your own. "I'll even be your tour guide if you want."
"Well, tour guide," You teased with a small smile before stepping back and holding out your hand. " I feel like I should know your name before I wholeheartedly follow you for who knows how long. I'm Y/n."
"Ralf," He took your hand and shook it. When you let go, he turned to hold out his arm for you to take. "There is this cafe that could be a good starting point. We can get some tea and cake before going around."
"That sounds like a good idea," You replied as you took his arm and followed him down the block. When you got to the cafe, you found a small table outside pretty quickly, and you went to sit at it while Ralf ordered two teas and a cake for you to share. You decided to pass the time checking your phone, seeing if any of your friends suddenly decided to message you. You let out a sad but not surprised sigh when you saw nothing just as Ralf came over to the table.
"They'll bring it over when it's ready," Ralf explained as he took the seat in front of you.
"Thank you, how much do I owe you?" You asked as you put your phone face down on the table.
"Consider it my treat," He replied just as the teas and cake arrived. You both thanked the waitress as you tried the tea and cake. "Do you like it?"
"Like it? This is amazing! I would've never even thought to come here since I don't normally like cake," You explained in awe as you two finished off the cake before sitting back in your chairs to continue talking over the tea. "How did you find this place?"
"I grew up down the road," He said, smiling. "I used to come here on weekends when I didn't have work, and I would bring my brother before our schedules got hectic. I haven't been here in a few years, so it's good to know it's just as good as I remember."
"Sounds like you're normally all over the place," You chuckled as you took a drink, but you were met with silence. "You're all over the place?"
"I used to race, but now I do less racing, more managing lower categories," He explained, and you were genuinely curious.
"No way," You gasped, leaning forward onto the table. "What did you race in? Like cars or bikes? Or something else?"
"Cars," He chuckled at your enthusiasm. "I used to be in Formula 2, but I moved to the GT cars a few years ago. I used to race with Prema, and now I manage some of their feeder teams."
"Oh so like F3, FRECA, and F4?" You asked. You didn't know much about them, but you were familiar.
"Yeah, I'm currently on a break between FRECA races," He replied.
"Well, I'm sorry to disrupt your break," You said. "You probably wanted to relax during your break. Now, I'm making you go sightseeing."
"No, don't apologize," He rushed, setting his now empty cup down. "I like going places, and trust me if I didn't want to go places with you, I wouldn't."
"Well, that's good to know," You replied quietly as you set your cup down as well.
"Now that that's out of the way, what kinds of places do you want to got to?" He asked to get an idea of places he could take you.
"I like museums, animals, and pretty things," You replied seriously before dissolving into giggles at the poor attempt of a joke.
"Well, for animals, there's an Alpaka farm nearby. For museums, there is the AHHAA Science Center or the Open Air Museum, depending on what kind of museums you like. For pretty things, there's so many of them," He paused for a second, thinking of the best place. "Have you tried looking into a mirror by chance?"
"That's smooth," You gasped, lightly smacking his forearm.
"Smooth but effective right?" Ralf smiled bashfully as he blushed.
"Very effective," You confirmed. "So effective, I think you should pick your favorite place, we'll go there, and then I'll buy us dinner as a date."
"This isn't a date?"
