"Done with the essay already?" Jaemin asked, washing his arms in the basin as he saw Areum enter the space. It was just them two again, away from the eyes and ears of everyone else around them

"You didn't have to be so hard on him" She piped up, feeling the need to defend Mark. Jaemin scoffed, drying his hands with a towel before turning to face her

"I don't need an intern telling me what to do" Jaemin said, plopping the towel down before leaning against the sink with his arms crossed over his chest

"He made a mistake and—"

"You corrected him, I get that. But it was a learning lesson. You didn't have to kick him out completely" she reasoned with him, taking his silence as a note to keep going

"Mark didnt want to lie to you. He was completely against me working for the clinic when I clearly wasn't licensed I just...I dragged him down with me and he doesn't deserve to take the fall for it" she said, standing by her friend as she faced Jaemin again who seemed a little taken back by her need to defend the guy

"So if you're angry at me...just take it out on me, only me." She finished and he nodded slowly, clearly his throat

"Okay." He replied simply and she raised her eyebrows in surprise

"O—Okay?" She asked, seeing if she had heard righf

"I'll take it out on you." Jaemin said, standing upright before she slowly approached her, causing her to take a few steps back and brush her back against the cold tiled wall

"Don't even think about stepping a foot inside my OR again until you have profusely apologised to every single person that you've put at risk. I mean that." He said sternly and she gulped, slowly nodding her head at him

"Words." He said, cocking his head the side almost belittling her

"Yes sir" she said and he nodded, reaching for the door handle

"I want that essay on my desk by Friday morning" he said again

"I-I'm on call until next—"

"10 pages, 12 point text, times new roman font, maximum 20 references in Vancouver style. Goodnight." Jaemin said, closing the door quickly before she could argue with him any further.

And she spent the next hour replaying the conversation in her head, cursing at Jaemin who was now probably peacefully asleep in his cozy apartment while she drank her 7th cup of coffee, staring at a blank document after just having finished her 18 hour shift.

"Wake up!" Haechan screamed into Areum's ear, jolting her awake from her unintentional slumber

"W-what are you—what—"

"Woah...how long did you sleep?" He asked with a chuckle as he took off his white coat, lying down on the lower bunk bed he was assigned to in the room with several beds for the interns to rest in

"Is it morning?" She asked with a gasp, looking at the light coming in through the window

"Yeah, I just finished my night shift—"

"Haechan what time is it?" She asked, too afraid to check her pager

"8:45" he replied plainly, opening one eye as he watched her scramble around the shared desk she fell asleep on before leaving the room to find Jinah.

"If I page you, you answer. I don't care if you're starving, passed out, drunk, being kidnapped or having sex. You answer your pages" Jinah said, watching Areum rush up to her

"I know but I've just been up all night doing—"

"Don't care. Rounds, east wing. Go!" Jinah ordered, passing her brand new patient files before turning back around to Jeno, her older brother. Jeno's eyes met Areum's, presumably knowing the full story from Jaemin by now, as he looked back at her with an uncomfortable expression.

"Why are you still standing here?" Jinah asked, breaking her contact off with Jeno and Areum nodded quickly, leaving to find her first patient. She passed Mark in the hallway who seemed to only glance at her for a second before being on his way. She was honestly betting on the universe to send Jaemin down and send her a nasty glance as well. After all, it seemed like everyone she considered close enough to talk to all hated her guts. Leaving her to confide in no one else but—

"Wonbin, I'm reconsidering that offer. Let's go grab a coffee" she smiled as she caught him by the vending machine reaching for a protein bar

"I knew you'd cave eventually, what caused the change of heart? You don't strike me as the type to make friends outside of your circle" Wonbin asked as he stood back upright with the bar in his hand

"Well right now my circle has gotten a lot smaller so...I could use a friend" she said with a sigh and he smiled

"And I could certainly use a coffee so—"

"Dr. Jung, new patient for you in room 310" Jaemin said, interrupting her conversation with Wonbin and placing a file in her hands. As if she didn't have enough files to keep on top of anyway—as well as a 10 page essay.

"I'm sorry...am I interrupting something?" Jaemin asked, eyeing the two interns who awkwardly fell into a silence around him

"No, not at all" Areum said quickly and Jaemin smiled, a pretty fake one at that before turning to Areum again

"Good. How's the essay coming along?" He asked and she awkwardly nodded, looking between him and Wonbin

"I got Dr. Jung here to write me a 10 page essay on the importance of medical ethics because—"

"It's going great. I'll have it on your desk by Friday" she said quickly, trying her best not to strangle Jaemin. Jaemin smirked, nodding his head and taking one final glance between the two before leaving

"Medical ethics?" Wonbin asked, raising an eyebrow at her and she sighed

"Don't ask. I'll see you around" she said, pursing her ljps into a thin line before walking off to find her new patient.
