"What are you doing here?" Jaemin asked with wide eyes as he saw Areum approaching him from the side while he waited for the elevator

"How's he doing?" She asked, disregarding his question but he let it slide as he saw her panicked expression as she stood beside him breathlessly

"He's conscious. I'm just getting the scans from radiology now so I don't have a diagnosis yet" Jaemin said and she nodded slowly, eyes looking down towards the elevator for it to arrive. Jaemin put his hands into his pocket as he remained in silence with her, taking a few side glances at her until he decided to speak up again

"Why aren't you in the surgery?" Jaemin asked, crossing his arms over his chest and she sighed, dropping her tensed up shoulders

"I can't" she said simply, shaking her head and Jaemin bit the inside of his cheek

"It's a rare surgery and you'll probably never get a case like this again. You can check on Haechan later—"

"He's my friend, Jaemin...I need to be with him" she said with a sigh as she turned around to him. She saw his adam's apple bob along his throat as he cleared it, firmly nodding his head before walking into the elevator that had opened up.

"You coming?" Jaemin asked, breaking her out of her trance and she blinked twice before stepping into the metal cage with him

"You're not gonna convince me to stay in the surgery?" She asked, having expected him to only go off on a tangent about the learning opportunity she was missing

"Do you want me to?" He asked back and she remained silent for a second. As a student, she really should be watching the surgery right now like every other intern, taking notes and sitting there in pure shock at how the human body is healed in such mysterious ways.

"No." She let out quietly. Because as a friend, she couldn't stand the thought of not being there for someone who she grew a certain fondness towards. She already learned her lesson from Seulgi.

"Then I won't." Jaemin said, noticing the drop in her features as she reminisced about the girl she had lost not too long ago. Jaemin could see right through it as well, knowing exactly what was playing out in her mind since it happened several times to him during his residency. That's what happens when you get attached.

Jaemin reached for the red switch on the elevator, flicking it up slowly and causing it to stop half way up. She looked towards him with surprise but he only smiled, looking down at his pager as he decided on interns to work this case.

"Take a minute" he advised simply, watching her turn away from as she took in a deep breath and relaxed her shoulders. She sniffed as her hand reached up to wipe away a stray tear that fell on her cheek without her knowledge. She cleared her throat as she reached for the switch again, turning the elevator back on as she calmed herself until the doors opened back up.

"He's on the 5th floor, room 127" Jaemin said from behind her, his hand lightly grazing along the small of her back as he passed her and stepped out of the elevator. She watched as he walked away from her, heading towards the radiology department as promised to get the scans. She let out a light yawn as the doors closed up again, allowing her to continue onto the fifth floor to go find him.

"Hi" she said with a small smile as she leaned against the doorframe, looking at Haechan sitting upright with more posture than in his whole life

"Okay I've been advised not to move my head so can you just step into my peripheral vision" Haechan said with a light chuckle and she sighed of light relief, seeing his still converse with her normally as she followed his step request
